Republicans: Immigration reform is more likely to happen if we take the Senate
Buzzfeed ^

Key House Republicans say congressional action on immigration is much more likely if Republicans take control of the Senate.

The effort, two Republicans say, would likely involve individual measures rather than a broad, comprehensive bill favored by Democrats.

"I actually think it's more likely, if we take the Senate, that we will have immigration reform," said Rep. Raul Labrador. "We will be able to do it on a step-by-step approach like most Republicans have been asking to do and I think the American people want."

Labrador, who was a member of the bipartisan House group working on the issue before exiting, foresees a Republican-controlled Congress passing a series of bills that deal with the border and focus on interior security and guest-worker programs.

"I don't want to mislead; it's a difficult lift as we all know," Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart told BuzzFeed News. "But we would have a better shot at getting it done if Republicans take control of the Senate for the simple reason that it could be initiated in the House with close coordination with the Senate."

Exactly. It comes down to ones definition of “reform”. Reform can mean many things. As the saying goes, the devil is in the details.

Rep. Raul Labrador, former gang member. Screw that.

By profession he's an immigration attorney.

A non-vote is a democrat vote. You are seeing the result of 4 million conservatives who were a little too pure to vote for Romney in the last election.

To further the conversation, what, precisely, is the 'essential liberty' that you see as being given up with e-Verify?

There is no right more essential than the right to earn your daily bread, without governmental permission or interference.

And by the way, there is no legitimate constitutional authority granted to government to control such basic, essential human actions.

What we need to pass is an Immigration Management bill and the bill needs to make one thing clear. Illegal immigrants are unwanted guests, they have limited rights to administrative hearings only for immigration issues, not the judicial system. They commit crimes, then they are prosecuted first.

Then, semi-militarize the Mexican border specifically to interdict alien smuggling and just whisper into Mexico’s ear that we’re really close to having a policy of ‘hot pursuit’ into Mexico for cross border crimes.

That’s exactly why I’m not voting.

Don't not vote. Vote 3rd Party. Write your candidates in. Don't vote for these GOPe RINO's, but don't not vote.

It's fine to stand on the principle but what about the actuality that your daily bread is at risk from competition by millions of sub-minimum wage illegals? Illegals who will also eventually be voting. And voting to hand over the rights you hold dear to total state control.

Do you refer to the action of crossing a national border without authority?

The situation you describe does not exist because the government isn’t controlling my most basic rights enough. It’s because those who supposedly represent us are doing everything they have no legitimate power to do, and few of the things they’ve actually sworn to do.

No. Our national government has a sworn duty to perform that function.

But they have no constitutional authority to decide whether or not I can work and earn my daily bread.

Well, since we all have our Purist Cards, maybe we should form a club.

We'll need a catchy name for our club.

How about "Conservative Purity Posse"?

EVIL!!!! You spread the evil!!! It’s because of you that we don’t have a severe conservative in office right now that has his own illegals working for him to guide us through border security issues. Thanks to you, our current president isn’t a better friend to homosexuals than Ted Kennedy. But he coulda been. And he said so!

I hope you are happy with yourself you evil purist! ;)
