Islamic State militants have been almost entirely driven out of the Syrian city of Kobane following a remarkable fightback by Kurdish forces who vowed to either defeat the terrorists or die trying.
The extremists have abandoned all of their positions in the city, except for two small pockets of resistance in the east of the city, Kurdish commander Baharin Kandal said.
As recently as Monday it looked as if the fall of Kobane was imminent, with the massively outgunned Kurdish fighters pushed back ever closer to the city centre by ISIS militants advancing into the suburbs, leaving hundreds of mainly elderly residents facing rape and massacre.
But with the help of the most intense U.S. and Arab bombing raids of the anti-ISIS campaign so far, the Kurdish forces have been able to kill hundreds of militants over the past two days and force those remaining back into the outskirts of the town.

Time for some nation-building. Let’s give Iraq to the Kurds and support them on the condition of religious tolerance. They seem to know how to keep the terrorists at bay.
If the Iraqi Shias had half the courage of the Kurds, ISIS would have been defeated as they crossed the border.
Motivation might be that if they lose, they lose their heads too.

If this isn’t a deliberate drawback — which does fit the ISIS pattern, they aren’t keen for long engagements, and rely on massive numerical and/or firepower superiority — then we haven’t seen the key to this fight, which will probably prove to have been successful interdiction of resupply of ammo and such to the ISIS jihadists.
Meanwhile BRAVO to the Peshmerga! The US has another fierce and reliable ally in the Middle East. It’s just too bad that the Kurds don’t have a fierce and reliable ally in the White House.

This is just amazing. The Kurds are one of our most reliable allies in the area and we are just now holding talks. Obama is truly a POS.

In this order:
1. Interrogate them exhaustively.
2. Glean and integrate all actionable intelligence from them.
3. Bury them alive... and post video to ISIS sees what awaits them.
Here’s what’s happened.
The Kurdish YPG fighters are a separate group from the Peshmerga. YPG are Syrian & Turkish Kurds and have been at war with Turkey for 30 years.
The Peshmerga are Iraqi Kurds that fought against Saddam.
The YPG are the defenders at Kobani and have little tactical training by US forces and very little capability at forward air support.
The Peshmerga are highly capable at close air support but Turkey would not let them cross the border into Kobani to help the YPK.
Permission was granted last week and Peshmerga forces went into Kobani. That’s why there is now air strikes inside the city where ISIL thought they were safe.

Apparently ISIS has not studied Sun Tzu. They placed the Kurds on “dying ground” where they simply have no choice but to “do or (literally) die”.
