(Updated at 12:30 p.m.) Arlington Countys hazmat team is on the scene at the Pentagon due to an possible Ebola case on a tour bus.
Medics responded to the Pentagon this morning for a report of a woman on a bus who was sick and vomiting. When they learned that she had recently arrived from Africa, the hazmat team was called out of a complete abundance of caution, Pentagon Force Protection Agency spokesman Chris Layman told ARLnow.com.
A large portion of the Pentagon south parking lot has been cordoned off with caution tape, and police are telling those who dont work at the Pentagon to avoid the immediate surrounding area.
The woman has been transported via ambulance to a Inova Fairfax Hospital. The countys medical director also responded to the call and is at the hospital with the patient, according to scanner traffic.
Layman said the bus was at the Pentagon for a tour of the Pentagon Memorial. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic has been shut down around it.
A tipster with knowledge of the emergency response tells ARLnow.com that the patient recently traveled from the West African nation of Sierra Leone, and that four first responders are being held at the hospital due to possible exposure. That tip could not be immediately confirmed.
Arlington medic units and Fairfax hazmat units are on scene at Inova Fairfax Hosptial, according to news helicopter footage.
As of 10:50 a.m., Arlington County was mobilizing its Emergency Operations Center to deal with the incident, according to Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck.
Just before noon, the county issued the following press release.
Arlington Responds to Possible Ebola Case
At about 9:10 a.m. today, Pentagon Police officers identified a woman in the Pentagon South Parking Lot, around lanes 17-19, who was ill and vomiting. Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) was notified and responded immediately with both emergency medical aid and HazMat response team.
During the response, the individual allegedly indicated that she had recently visited western Africa. Out of an abundance of caution, all pedestrian and vehicular traffic was suspended around the South Parking lot, while Arlington County responded to the scene. At 9:53 a.m, the patient was taken to the Virginia Hospital Center; however she did not exit the ambulance. ACFD then transported the patient to Fairfax Inova Hospital.
Arlington Public Health is directing the public health response to this incident. Arlington County has activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and a Joint Information Center (JIC) to manage the incident.
At the Pentagon Out of an abundance of caution and to allow the investigation to proceed, pedestrian and vehicular traffic around the Pentagon South Parking lots lanes 7-23 will remain restricted until further notice. The Corridor 2 entrance to the Pentagon is also closed.
More information will be released when it becomes available.
Despite numerous Ebola scares in the United States, there have been fewer than 10 confirmed cases in the country. Today President Obama named an Ebola czar to help coordinate the federal response to the outbreak threat.
Or at least a One Million Car Caravan to the White House?
The wording makes it appear those were infected here, when they were not. Except Pham...and she is in my maybe column for actually having the disease.
Me too!
Just this morning I was yelling at the radio, “I sick of that saying, an ‘Abundance of caution!’”
Glad I’m not the only one.
Well at least the Belt way elite are getting a different kind of taste of their kings policies now. We needed adults in charge and we got a treasonous president and cabinet and now a D.N.C. political hack to get out a better message about a plague inflicted on us like biological war out of the Whitehouse aimed squarely at Americans because the Obamas think we are arrogant.
OOPs 200 thousand. LOL
A bit out of touch?
- Duncan (Patient zero)
- The Vietnamese nurse shipped to Maryland
- The Black nurse shipped to Atlanta
- The person on the cruise ship
- The person who showed up at Baylor who was shipped to Presbyterian, but apparently didn't get there (screened positive, no test results yet, and if the person doesn't turn up, probably won't have any test results).
Ebola-eussical, the Musical..
You cannot catch it on a Bus.
Even if you lick infected pus.
You cannot catch it from a Hug.
Harder to get than flu, this ebola bug.
You cannot catch it from a mouse.
Or rooming in an infected house.
You cannot catch it from the air.
Even on a plane ride from Zim-zam-zaire.
You can trust the Cee Dee Cee
Obama will save us, you will See....
(cough cough, Vomit Noise)
(Into the hot zone go our boys)
Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch.
I hadn't heard those details yet.
Deploying troops to the Ebola zone will not end well, most especially with the current non-existent leadership.
Ebola victim was on a TOUR BUS, so hopefully your son won’t be affected.
Nothing to see here folks. Go about your daily business.
"About the same time, the World Health Organization said one of its doctors tested positive for Ebola at a treatment center in Sierra Leone but the cases have not been officially linked and WHO has not identified the physician." [snip] "Hospitals across the United States have been urged to watch for possible cases and to ask patients about their travels to help screen for the virus. Patients have been monitored in Maryland, Massachusetts, Kansas, Washington, Hawaii and Florida, but none tested positive for Ebola.
