Rand Paul: Republicans Can’t Win without Black Vote
Frontpage Mag ^ | 10/18/2014 | Daniel Greenfield

Posted on 10/18/2014 6:44:19 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Rand Paul won his Senate seat without winning any notable amount of the black vote. In a match up with Hillary Clinton, he’s currently set to take 15% of the black vote. That’s much better than Mitt Romney, but he’s up against Hillary Clinton. Not Barack Obama.

And his MSNBC comments about letting businesses discriminate against black people haven’t been in autoplay for eight months, which they would be if he ever won the primaries. After that, he would be lucky to get 1 percent no matter how many trips he makes to Ferguson.

So his constant chatter about winning minority votes remains hypothetical pandering. He hasn’t actually won those votes.

WOLF BLITZER: If you run for president, Senator, you think it’s possible you could get some sizable African-American support?

RAND PAUL: I think if we don’t, we won’t ever win again. We’re a very diverse country. But if Republicans don’t go out and compete for African-American votes, don’t go out and compete for the Hispanic vote and the Asian-American vote, we won’t win again in our country because the country is a diverse country now and we can’t have one party that monopolizes the various ethnic group votes. So, we do have to compete and if I do it, I plan on competing for all votes.

There’s a difference between competing and pandering. More to the point, this appeal isn’t really pitched to black voters, it’s aimed at convincing establishment Republicans that he can win over those voters in a general election.

Can he? Christie is currently at 13 percent of the black vote against Hillary. Paul is at 15 percent. So to some degree, his campaign has worked, but it’s a really small and untested degree.

Paul’s outreach efforts, like McCain’s candidacy, is being propped up by a smiling media which finds his Republican bashing narrative useful. And that lets him pile up some numbers until they bring the hammer down and when your father is slightly to the left of David Duke and you went on MSNBC to effectively suggest abolishing the Civil Rights Act, the media won’t even have to strain hard to do it.

But Paul does score 21 percent of the votes of those who identify as liberal. Christie only pulls in 19 percent.

It would be nice if Republicans could get a significant percentage of the black vote in future presidential elections, then they could probably ignore Hispanics on illegal immigration and still win just fine.

“Rand Paul: Republicans Can’t Win without Black Vote”

CORRECTION:

“Rand Paul: Republicans Can’t Win THE Black Vote”

So why bother trying. Win a decent share of Hispanics and keep whites happy, and we’re good for DECADES.

I am no fan of Rand Paul, but Republicans should be tripping over themselves to gain black voters. Many conservative minded blacks vote Democrat just because they buy those race-baiting lies the dems feed them.

Rand just pissed off millions of illegal aliens. They thought it would be they who would be deciding America’s future from now on.

yup..but the fact is the GOPe has no interest in superior black conservatives such as Dr Ben Carson, Allen West, Starr Parker, Kevin Jackson, Deneen Borrelli because they are (gasp) aligned with the Tea Party!!!

So, Blacks can now ask for bids to see what they’ll acquire for their votes.

Yes I completely agree. There are some major stars on that list but the current GOP establishment would rather chase after liberal votes.

I think half of the liberal GOPers really want to make the party a liberal party that loves big business and the other half are democrat spies just out to divide and conquer.

Well Rand, the pubbies can’t win until there are effective voter ID laws in place to counter all of the fraud the dhims commit. Nor can they win without the white Christian vote. Remember Mittens in 2012?

No. Republicans can’t win without the conservative vote. Yet the GOP couldn’t give two sh!ts about that.

Rand Paul is a moron. Republicans can only win without the “Black Vote”, period.

They have never won with it. They will never win with it. It's an absolute guarantee that Republicans will never win any election if they count on the “Black Vote”.

The dems have locked up the “Black” voting block via “welfare” and that will not change in my lifetime. This is not Rocket Science. The “Black Vote” is a guaranteed given for dems, and that is a truism that will endure for many generations to come, IMO.

Pandering to the “Black Voter” is pointless and counterproductive, IMO.

End welfare programs en mass and perhaps you will finally see the end of the “Black Vote” locked in to the dems.

That presupposes one thing: that Republicans desire the votes of the conservative minded — given their actions, I don't believe this to be the case.

Blacks and hispanics have been bought off by the Democratic Party. The few who vote for the GOP or independents are the lucky ones who have escaped the Democrat plantation and barrio complex, but we would have to water down the conservative message to try and attract these people. That will not work and it will mean millions of conservatives will say the hell with it and stay home. Do we want another repeat of 2012?

Those folks are convinced that salvation is in the bow of the ship.

Let them go, 96 percent voting for Obama is a clear message to Republicans on where their loyalties lie.

Ethnics might as well be tribal. They vote that way. It really is disgraceful (in this day and age), but many on here are correct in saying there’s not a pee-wad of a chance of derailing that.
