The family of an Oakland, Calif., mother of four is pleading for help and police are hunting a road-rage killer who gunned down the "shining spirit" as her husband and high school sweetheart drove home from a Sunday grocery run.
Perla Avina, 30, was in the passenger seat and her husband, Luis Lopez Gallegos, was driving their 1998 Toyota Camry just after noon on Sunday when a gunman drove up and fired into the car, hitting Avina in the face. Gallegos managed to make it to their nearby East Oakland home, but his wife was dead by the time an ambulance came. Since Sunday, police, who are now offering a $30,000 reward for information leading to the shooter's arrest, have been trying to put together a description of the killer and the car he was driving.

A senseless act of violence for sure, but other than the shooting occurred on the road I missed the road rage part, from what I read a guy just drove up and assassinated the poor woman. Where did they describe a confrontation leading up to the shooting?
I don't know why the story references "road rage." A married couple returning from the supermarket in a 98 Camry don't fit the profile of aggressive drivers. It sounds more like cold blooded murder.

Bingo. After so many "hate" crimes have turned out to be hoaxes, this story immediately made me suspicious. I'm sure the police are looking into this angle.
(With all that said, I feel a little sick that my first instinct in most cases has become suspicion, rather than compassion.)
It looks like a gang initiation ritual. A murder of a stranger is very difficult to investigate, as there is nothing connecting the murderer and the victim.
I doubt this family even knows what life insurance is, much less can afford the premiums.
Motive? This is Oakland where the ferals will shoot you for looking at them funny.
Sigh. She was a devoted mother and cute as a bug. A family senselessly destroyed.
Not even a description of the suspect vehicle...zip.
Nor were there any indication of car vs car altercation or road rage as the media calls it.
My hunch is there is more to this story and the motivation.

Big freaking help that is, unless the cops recognize the vehicle or suspects and want to quickly bag them.

The scumedia makes this a human intrest story but fails to tell you it probably could be drugs, gang, domestic dispute or immigrant related
She was a beautiful lady-it sure looks like the family could use some financial help.
