Kaci Hickox, the Maine nurse who treated Ebola patients and is locked in a standoff with the governor over quarantine rules, has been temporarily ordered by a court to stay at least three feet away from other people and avoid public places.
Hickox, who has tested negative for Ebola and has no symptoms, has maintained that authorities in Maine violated her rights by demanding that she stay at home for 21 days. She took a defiant bike ride on Thursday morning, and Gov. Paul LePage said that she was testing his patience.
The court order, issued late Thursday, leaves room for Hickox to go outside but instructs her to stay away from public transit and workplaces, and not to leave the town of Fort Kent, where she has mostly been holed up in a house, without consulting with public health authorities.
The order applies “until further order of this court” on Friday. The order said that Hickox’s lawyers had agreed that she would follow the instructions until the court weighs in again....

Kaci Wilcox ordered not to sneeze.
She’s doing her best to stretch her 15 minutes of fame into a half hour sitcom.
Okay so she has to stay three feet from people.
You can do that quite handily and still sit in a chair or a booth at places of business. You can touch counters, pick up merchandise, fondle the fruit.
So is this safe?
I know some of us are very concerned about civil liberties. One of the most important ones is to be free from infectious disease when that can be arranged.
This is not an issue of abuse. Reasoned precautions are being made here, and this woman is making a mockery of it.
That’s all fun and games unless it’s your family member that comes in direct contact with her, or the trail she is leaving behind.

Kaci Hickox (what a name) cannot accept someone handing her a glass of water without defying the Governor’s instruction.
They can bring her up on contempt of court charges if she doesn’t comply.

. . . no, this takes it to a whole new level. You violate a court order, ugly things begin to happen. Ticking off a judge by ignoring his order is a really stupid idea - contempt, jail, fines . . . they don't take kindly to being flouted.
True story: my dad used to go fishing with a judge whose nickname was "Two Gun Charlie" because he presided with two loaded .44 Bulldog revolvers on the bench. He was a former Texas Ranger and Industrial League baseball umpire - built like a tank, steady gaze. I was about 6 years old and I was TERRIFIED of him. :-)
Once a lawyer brought the judge an ex parte order enjoining the National Labor Relations Board from setting foot in Early County Georgia. Judge signed it. The next week, a young man came to town looking for the judge and was directed to his home. The judge invited him in, offered him a "Co'Cola" and asked his business. Young man said, "My superiors have sent me to ask - very respectfully of course - by what authority you have ordered the NLRB not to set foot in Early County."
The judge fixed him with his steely gaze and said, very softly, "You may tell your superiors to violate that order . . . even a little bit . . . and they will see by what authority."
The young man stood up, said, "I think I am in the wrong place," and departed, leaving his coca-cola untouched.
They don't make Men like that any more! This is not a good picture but it gives you a general impression:
Since she has trouble obeying simple instructions, mebbe they ought to fit her with one of those plastic lampshades like they use on cats after surgery to keep them from biting/licking the incision.
