“And played it badly”

The woman had excruciating headaches, repeated seizures and memory loss. So somehow, withering away in agony toward irreversible, certain death would be preferable?

Three of my grandparents thought so. One had a brain tumor, the other dementia, and one had so many physical maladies the doctor's couldn't believe he was still alive. In their misery, they still saw things through to the bitter end. I'll never forget their love or dedication. They had faith it was part of a final cleansing before they came home to the Lord. If someone recommend they murder themselves, they would have punched them in the face with their remaining energy.

They are my role models to this day.

She could’ve opted for hospice.

But, no, she decided to use her story to help push an agenda - one that involves patients being sent home with suicide pills.

I would choose to tough it out, even though I know what that means, because I know that is what God wants, and because I know that suffering has a purpose.

I would beg family members not to take that route, but would understand it.

Again, though, pain medicine is often not given in ways that really help the patient, and I can see that fact affecting patient decisions.

There is so much room for improvement.
