Cruz won't endorse McConnell to lead Senate

Sen. Ted Cruz lauded the Republican Senate takeover Tuesday night, but shied away from endorsing Sen. Mitch McConnell to lead the new majority.

The Texas Republican declined to say whether he would vote for McConnell -- the current Senate minority leader -- to become the Senate majority leader.

"That'll be a decision for the conference to make and that'll be decided next week," Cruz told CNN's Wolf Blitzer twice on CNN.

"Tonight what I'm focused on is the results of this election, which is a resounding Republican majority," Cruz said.

It's not the first time that Cruz, a tea party favorite and potential 2016 presidential contender, has skirted the question, also declining to pledge his loyalty to McConnell in an interview with The Washington Post published Sunday.

My memory isn’t as good, but didn’t this Mitch guy said “‘We are going to crush’ the Tea Party in 2014 elections.....’ “?

... the R's to bend over backwards slobbering over obummer and 'bipartisanship'.

If so, then I will be among the first to cast a stone. Until then, I am not going to be spoiling for a fight.

It’s both. Having Myrtle the Turtle as the face of the Republican Senate is not good, even if his politics were identical to Ted Cruz.

No. He earned the disgust of conservatives with his liberal support of Reid's agenda with cloture votes.

He can damn sure prove himself.

I expect Amnesty out of him.

The day Ted Cruz pledges his loyalty to McConnell is the day he loses my support. Fortunately, that isn't going to happen.

Stock up on your stones now then. McConnell’s statements today, yesterday and in the past week already signal surrender to Obama and ‘working with Democrats” to move the nation ‘Forward’.

As was just said, this was not a win for Conservatives. It was a win for the Ruling Class GOP, and Rove was all over the tube with Romney to make sure everyone sees it that way.

Cruz for Senate majority leader.

He's the only leader the senate has. The rest are followers.

but the GOP would be smart to choose
a younger more telegenic SML.
no one has ever accused the GOP/e (Leadership Class) of being Smart...

Cruz is a leader. McConnell will never be a leader.

Cruz doesn’t need to be Majority Leader to lead, and even as Majority Leader McConnell will never lead, he can only obstruct.

Yes. No GOPe op wants to give up ANY power, or actually consider smaller government. They are Uniparty, and will always be.

We constitutionalists/T.E.A. Partiers MUST join our local R precincts and engage, speak, inform, question, demand and reward. In unavoidable numbers. NOW.

And hammer our local media with conservative truths, and about the untruths of our national media.

I see it as the only possible way to avoid a RINO in 2016.

Republicans need a new face on the Senate. Immediately.

McConnell needs a repaired face.

and then stop Obama and put the country on strong footing all while preparing for 2016....That will NEVER happen with McConnel in charge. He needs to be pinched off, made irrelevant and shamed into never denying a conservative proposal. Or die, politically.

I will wait to see if the public face of McConnell is the same as his private one. I don't think it's prudent to publicly come out swinging and handing a beleaguered Democrat base with a new, improved focal point for their hate.

I am a realistic optimist. I know who McConnell is, I am just hopeful he now feels a unfettered to stop Obama and get this country on track. I don't worry too much about what he says publicly, but should he actually head down amnesty path, or some other hair-brained leftist walkway, then I will be among the first to pick up a stone, along with some hangin’ rope.

The smartest thing Cruz can do is leverage this situation to gain influence on what key issues he wants. McConnell is all but assured to be the ML, Cruz can either be his great allie or worst enemy. Cruz knows it, McConnell knows it too.

Whatta-buncha-crap, no offense.

Cruz and turtle are at war, and Cruz doesn't play games. He outed the GOPe game of voting for cloture, then against the bill to trick constituents.

GOPe only wants to crush Cruz and TEA. Cruz knows this better than anyone.

Inflammatory headline. Cruz didn’t say he “wouldn’t” endorse him, just that he wasn’t doing anything at this time because the committee hadn’t even met yet.

I don’t think Cruz has much chance of getting the spot, but I hope he’s working behind the scenes either to get a better candidate or to get commitments from McConnell. .

That said, I think this win was good enough so even somebody as wussy as McConnell might develop a backbone. He sounded pretty good in his press conference (many Freepers put words in his mouth in their comments, meaning that he never said them but that was what they thought he would say because they didn’t bother to listen to the speech or read the transcript). But it’s going to take a combination of carrot and stick to keep him going.

You’re willing to risk another 4-6 years then.... Most of us are fed up and want someone to take charge now, giving nothing to chance.
