Currently, Dish Network's 14 million subscribers do not have access to CNN or other Turner Broadcasting channels like the Cartoon Network. Speaking specifically of CNN, Dish Chairman Charlie Ergen ridiculed the left-wing cable news network's obsessive coverage of the missing Malaysian airliner and said losing the channel was a "non-event."
"Twenty years ago, CNN was a must-have channel, but it's not a top 10 network anymore ... unless they find the plane, the Malaysian plane," Ergen said during a conference call. He added that losing CNN just days before a major midterm election would have been "a disaster" for Dish a decade ago, but there have been "few subscriber losses after the channel's removal because viewers now have plenty of sources for news."
Keep in mind that Ergen is currently negotiating with Turner and that this dismissive attitude is undoubtedly part of a negotiating strategy. He is correct, though, that a decade ago Dish would've felt more pressure to make a deal with CNN with a big midterm election on the horizon. The truth is that CNN just isnt what it used to be. Not only have the ratings tanked, so has its credibility. Despite this, according to Ergen, CNN came at Dish with a double digit price increase:
We know how many minutes people watch CNN and how many minutes they watched five years ago and its hard to pay a double-digit price increase for something that people are watching half as much as they used to watch. Its Turners job to make their product better. Not ours
When they make the product better, they make more money from it.

That the adult theme cartoon that really out there
lol
“I went to my local automotive garage for 1 1/2 hour repair work. The Tv was on CNN.
I asked the desk if I could change the channel-they said sure and explained that they get cable TV free from CNN.
Whenever the TV is turned on, it immediately loads CNN , although once its on , customers can change the channel.
I guess it is an incentive to offer customer courtesy TV in many waiting rooms , and probably explains why even though the presentation is awful, it explains how they subsidize and maintain their viewer numbers.”
Thanks that explains a similar situation in a multi doctor waiting room.
Last year I had complex foot surgery and went to the doctor once a week for a long time to have my dressings changed and for xrays and other observations.
Every time we went in, both tvs (one at each end of a large waiting room were on), and both sets were on CNN which no one was watching. On my second visit I asked the receptionist if I/she could change to Fox News or Fox Business. She used a remote by her to tune in Fox News at both sets.
From then on, when I checked in for a visit, she would grin and change the channel from CNN to Fox News.
If not for airports, hotel lobbies and Rush Limbaugh sound bites there would no longer be a CNN. To make it worse for them, I’ve noticed some hotels where my wife and I have stayed have started switching to FOX.
I mentioned those 3 because that is virtually all I watch....ok I forgot Golf, but I could manage just fine on the 3 I mentioned.
Would love to be able to just order 3 stations. Why should we have to pay for stuff we dont want.
I have had dish for years. I didn’t know they carried cnn.
lol - my dad called DirecTV and they were more than happy to restore TCM to his lineup and give him $200 for his trouble. He didn’t know or care that cnn was involved in the deal.
Yeah this is Dish network
I've always been pissed that I have to pay for crap we don't watch like CNN and ESPN.
The only few seconds we've watched either was when I mis-punched the remote buttons.
Why should I have to pay for CNN's propaganda?
I hope Dish never brings it back and would be happy if they would not waste time negotiating with Turner.

They were! Well, either boomerang or Cartoon Network. They played the Flintstones at 10:00 pm and then the Warner Bros oldies (bugs, Pepe le pew, etc) at 10:30. It was awesome.
That's the problem, Turner controls so much of the early movies and is miserly on releasing them for air, he makes too much money selling overpriced DVD's. Now don't get me wrong, he made a very savvy investment buying them up, but so much is lost to our children and grandchildren now that it's criminal. I mean I worked with twenty somethings a decade ago who had no clue who the classic comedians were the only comedians they knew could tell a joke without using a dozen FU's and other swear words.
There is audience for old movies I notice GETTV and Movies tv network show old movies sometime one thing about Movies network
They show Ole Charley Chan movie start Warren Oland and Sidney Toler seriously
Yeah that the problem Ted Fonda may killing on that deal
There are a number of over the air channels that show old movies lik GETV does, tonight KFTR4 in SoCal is running McClintock, but all the old Danny Kaye, Bob Hope, and the like are locked up with Turner.
When I was a kid a local station always aired older shows and reran lots of westerns. It was where I could watch Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers and Gunsmoke and the Rifleman and such.
I think it’s a Spanish-language station now.
I remember watching lots of old shows with my grandparents after school and when I was young and later when I worked until midnight and wanted to unwind afterwards, there were always great old movies on late night TV courtesy of good old Cal Worthington and the like. Now we get crap and infomercials!
tell me about it
I pretty much stopped watching TV years and years ago. I sometimes catch a football game or a movie on TV but it’s getting more rare.
OHH Yeah I had hear of Grit tv I got grandfather in here in LA market
BTW we going new one called Decades that coming to Los Angeles market spring 2015 on CBS network sub channels
