An Obama veto of Keystone XL could be pretty unpopular
Washington Post ^ | November 13, 2014 | Aaron Blake

President Obama is fond of telling Congress that it should pass things with the overwhelming support of the American people, including (among other things) comprehensive immigration reform, increasing the minimum wage, and increasing gun background checks.

And yet, Obama could soon be in a position of vetoing something with a similar amount of support: the Keystone XL pipeline.

Poll after poll has shown support for Keystone is somewhere between very strong and overwhelming. A Pew Research Center survey this month showed support for the project at nearly two-to-one, 59 percent to 31 percent. And that was about the lowest level of support we've seen to date. Support has registered as high as two-thirds of Americans.

And as another recent Pew poll showed, it's not just Republicans and independents driving support for the project. In fact, basically the only group that opposes it is the most liberal of Democrats.

According to Pew's breakdown from June, three of the four Democratic-leaning groups -- including religious Democrats, young Democrats and the most moderate Democratic leaners -- all supported the project two-to-one.

Which is a long way of saying that Obama would likely have very few supporters were he to wield his veto pen, as the White House suggests he will following votes by the House and Senate -- which by all indications will approve the bill.

The White House, if it does veto the bill, will apparently argue that it can't approve it before the lengthy State Department review of the project's environmental impact is complete -- along with a Supreme Court case in Nebraska concerning a key part of the pipeline's route. That's fine, but it still remains that a strong majority of Americans are pretty keen on getting the pipeline done.

Why would he veto it. Didn’t he say his administration is “still studying” it?

You begin to more fully understand our nation’s predicament when you read the posts contained in this article. So many ding-a-lings in the so-called “environmental movement.” Most of them are lucky if they know how to have a bowel movement and tie their shoes every morning.

It’s unpopular? Then he’ll get clobbered in the midterms and may not get reelected in 2016. Oh wait.

He will veto it because the studies are still ongoing and there is an impending court case. It is all a ruse to kill the pipeline. They have been studying this for 6 years.

Obama's recent untrue comments that the pipeline will not benefit the US and is just a way for the Canadians to export their oil transiting the US demonstrate his opposition to the pipeline. It is ideological and political.

I remember when the environmentalists blocked the ALASKA PIPELINE back in the mid 1970s. Some told me it would NEVER be built.
I said “Just wait till the Arabs boycott the oil again and see how fast it goes in”.
A few years later, Alaskan oil was flowing through the new pipeline.

KEYSTONE will eventually be built.

People try to analyze Obama’s actions as if he was a somewhat sane and serious man who means well and wants the best for America but just has different ideas about how to bring that about.

But nothing could be further from the truth.

Like a jihadi muslim He has no honor and his word, oath or promise is worthless.

He is irrational, a pathological liar, doesn’t mean well for America or most Americans, and is determined to destroy the nation as a constitutional republic.

He wants to rebuild it into some sort of socialist, Islam worshipping, minority run, welfare agency for the entire world’s non-white peoples.

He cannot be dealt with as anything other than an enemy of the nation.

He will veto it because the pipeline will be like a transfusion into the energy arteries of the country. Obama wants a weaker America, not a stronger one. He's trying to atrophy America, not energize it.

He will veto it because the gas prices are low and the ignorant uninformed voter doesn’t see any advantage to the pipeline. It’s a no brainer for the brain dead.
