When I drive through Houston I see lots of things that people who draw unemployment and food stamps could be doing to “pay” for part of their benefits. IMO there is absolutely no reason why they couldn’t pick up trash, trim bushes, mow lawns, be trained to fix up homes of the very elderly which are falling into disrepair, wield a paint brush, etc. But it is going to take some enterprising and resourceful city leaders who are dedicated to getting people organized to work and off the dole.

Since Obama says the economy is humming better than a tuned Jaguar, they don’t need the food stamps.

I'd be far more impressed if the title was, "Welfare & food stamp recipients are required to WORK!"

No phony "job training" or even "job hunting," just work - period!!!

Wish they would add mandatory drug testing and revoke welfare for drug users and abusers. No drug dealers or users should be allowed to participate in the welfare system.

Also revoke or reduce welfare for convicted criminals and, if under-age, their parent, guardian, or family. No criminals should be allowed to participate in the welfare system.

Also set term limits for welfare payments and perform periodic reviews to renew or terminate welfare based on active participation, progress, and current needs. Find and eliminate the fraud and abuse in our current welfare systems.

Those found ineligible to participate in the government (taxpayer) funded welfare programs can turn to alternate sources such as friends, family, public funded organizations, and churches charities.

Those that cannot qualify for any welfare, must go to work or starve.

Being required to work or train is okay, just as long as they don’t have to have ID’s to collect the freebies. That would be welfare suppression.

"According to Fox 59 in Indianapolis, Indiana’s new requirement mandates that “any able-bodied Indiana adult without children will need to be working at least 20 hours a week, be in job training, or searching for employment in order to qualify.”"

The dead-beats will just have more babies, eh?

"...or searching for employment in order to qualify.”

That's the easy out. Simply go online once a week, enter the names of a dozen local companies and claim you applied for jobs there and you're good to go. Should take of about 12 minutes.

I hope Indiana is a bit more restrictive in what constitutes obtaining job training and what constitutes looking for work that Massachusetts is.

When I live in that hellhole, we ran into a woman who was originally from the Philippines. She married a guy who was in the Navy and moved to the United States. She divorced him after she received permanent residency status based on her marriage to the then serviceman. This woman had been in GED training for 16 years. She knew that if she did not fail the GED test, she would have to look for work.

What constitutes looking for work in Massachusetts? Filling out three job applications or mailing a resume to three companies each week.

The woman we know worked odd job for cash only and in the nice weather begged on the street. She would net between $2,000 and $5,000 a week by panhandling which she placed into savings accounts around Boston.

With all those millions of jobs Obama and the Democrats brag about, there should be no problem in cutting SNAP 50% in next year’s budget. Everyone should be able to find work in this humming Obama economy.
