They're not even going to buy a new brand of lipstick.

My parents and grandparents were Democrats. All were part of labor unions and had a deep distrust of big business. But other than that, they were mostly conservative when it came to taxes, defense, immigration, schools, etc. A long buried dinosaur it seems.

the Democratic Party is for justice and opportunity—with no qualifiers—for everyone."

What a load of bull. And by the way, even if they get a new brand of lip stick, all it means is that the pig looks a little better, but it is still a pig.

>> had a deep distrust of big business

Yet the ultimate “business” that has a gun to one’s head 24/7 isn’t that onerous.

I’m only highlighting that fragment of your post given its regularity in contemporary thinking.

"Democratic Party should openly embrace government as a tool for lifting people out of economic hardship"

How stupid can people be? If government is a tool to lift people out of economic hardship, the only result will be more government and more hardship.

Please...........

"had a deep distrust of big business"

There is no bigger business than government in America.

What Dims know they are peddling is Socialism Lite. They just keep trying to rebrand it as something else. There aren’t nearly enough people in the South anymore who would give up their free will to allow that sort of infection to spread again. Sure, you have your Atlantas, your Selmas, your Birminghams, but that sort of liberal squalor festers in pockets all across the land. We have it surrounded. Dims of fifty years ago were about the equivalent of Romneyesque RINOs of today. Today’s Dims have strayed so far off the left shoulder of the road, they’re not even in the same zip code anymore. Yesterday’s Leftist radical is today’s mainstream face of the ‘Rat Party.

They are that delusional if they think the national party’s toxic liberal policies will play well in the South.

They’re that of touch with the mood of the region. After a catastrophic wipeout this month, they’re going to double down on what failed.

Then again, they’re Democrats after all.

They’d have to move well to the right to be “Socialism Lite.” The GOP is Socialist. The Democrats are outright Totalitarian/Fascist/Communist.

Well, if Obamacare worked, every one would have voted for them.

We have crappier private health care than we had before and they allowed social benefits to be slashed for their own voting blocs.

That rehash of populism is phonier than than a dollar bill. To add insult to injury, with amnesty they will take away jobs from working class whites and give them to illegals.

Just who the heck are they trying to kid?

They lament that the losing candidates (wrongly) ran away from Obama, and that in GA (and I suspect in other state races) candidates didn’t include Medicaid expansion under in their states under “Obama’s health overhaul” in their campaign commercials.

Imagine.

If the Democrats moved to the right of the GOP, they might stand a chance of clawing back lost ground.

No chance that’s gonna happen. With the way they think, they don’t have to change at all.

Its always someone else’s fault.

Medicaid was their strongest issue.

I’m surprised they didn’t bring it up.

I guess running away from your own policies is saying to the voters you stand for something.

And they can’t even bring themselves to toss Obama under the bus.

I made that suggestion to some TN Democrats (where the party is now effectively dead except for leftist hipster urban White areas, union thug areas, and low-info VRA areas), and they just shook their heads. They want the party to be even further to the left. Hey, I tried...

...in an effort to energize African-Americans and attract whites.

The difficulty here is that the means they have used to energize their African-American base have profoundly alienated whites. Race riots tend to do that.

The problem is the message. "Your freedom depends on the government taking control over every facet of your life" is a loser even among the low information voters.

Realistically, with only 20% of the white vote, they’ll be in the minority for a long time to come.

They know they need to do better than that to be competitive.

But Southern Democrats are going to the Left because that’s where their last loyal voters are - white urban liberals, single young women, blacks and Latinos. For them, its not so much about regaining their former glory.

Its about survival now.

The problem is the black vote is maximized out already and to make matters worse, the black population is shrinking rather than growing.

Its not like they can grow more votes there. And they’re losing ground among Asians and Latinos. Although Jews vote as heavily Democratic as blacks, more Jews vote Republican than what Democrats typically get as a share of the white vote.

The future is not looking bright for the Donkey Party in the South.

Exactly.

I’m reminded of the pathetic Communist mentality that ultimately requires an overarching mechanism of control to ensure “fairness.” Fairness through submission....
