Republicans dismiss impeachment, say it would ‘martyr’ Obama

Unsuccessful attempt could undermine GOP efforts to reverse amnesty order

Capitol Hill Republicans have furiously denounced President Obama’s executive action on immigration as illegal, unconstitutional and an abuse of the power of his office — but they get skittish when the talk turns to impeachment.

Even Rep. Steve King, one of the most fiery opponents of the president’s “executive amnesty” for illegal immigrants, backed away from his previous calls for impeachment.

“I don’t want to do the ‘I’ word. Nobody wants to throw the nation into that kind of turmoil,” the Iowa Republican told CNN immediately following Mr. Obama’s executive action.

Career politicians playing optics. If president should be impeached, he should be impeached, despite optics. But, rejoice! Republicans now control both houses!

Precisely the mentality Obama counts on.

With this type of thinking Obama can truly do whatever he wants to... and he knows it.

Absolutely it would make him a martyr. And that is the LAST thing we should want to do.

The dems are destroying themselves, DON’T STOP THEM.

I know some people don't want to hear this but it would be foolish to impeach without convicting. So, the votes need to be in hand before any action takes place.

Otherwise, we are just waking a sleeping bear.

“I don’t want to do the ‘I’ word. Nobody wants to throw the nation into that kind of turmoil,”

What does Rep King think Obama IS DOING to this nation if not throwing it into turmoil!? The way to stop it is to do the constitutionally prescribed remedy for such abuse of power in that office, and THAT IS TO IMPEACH THE BASTARD.

GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ!

You do the right thing, because it’s the right thing to do.

You do not not do the right thing becuase of how others who are dishonest may perceive your doing the right thing.

But the GOP is not going to do the right thing, because they are dishonest.

That is the reality of the situation.

Last time, the GOP Senate Leadership blocked 90% of the counts the Monicagate prosecutor, David Schippers would have been able to bring.

Now they whine and hold themselves where their manhood used to be, after performing a collective oophorectomy on themselves.

Impeachable Alleged Clinton Immigration Offenses Squashed by GOP Senate Leadership

Injustice for All: An Excerpt from Sellout: The Inside Story of President Clinton's Impeachment

By David Schippers October 2000

In October 1996, in one of the first public accounts of this matter, former Center Senior Fellow Rosemary Jenks testified before the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration about many of the abuses surrounding the Citizenship USA program. Ms. Jenks concluded that due to pressure from the White House, and in particular the Vice President’s office, the Immigration and Naturalization Service disregarded many of the requirements of the naturalization process that ensure that only qualified immigrants with no significant criminal history may become citizens. She subsequently testified before the House immigration subcommittee on the same matter, in April 1997. Her remarks before that committee may be found at www.house.gov/judiciary/666.htm.

In his book, Sellout: The Inside Story of President Clinton’s Impeachment, David P. Schippers, former Chief Counsel for the House Judiciary Committee, details his investigation of these same issues. He concludes that were he and his investigators afforded more time, it is likely the abuses of the Citizenship USA program would have been included in the list of impeachable offenses against President Clinton. Below is an excerpt from Schippers’ book, published last month by Regnery.

My staff and I agreed that we needed to focus on the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), which appeared to be running out of control. By the time we came to the subject, investigations by the General Accounting Office (GAO) and congressional committees had already indicated that the White House used the INS to further its political agenda. A blatant politicization of the agency took place during the 1996 presidential campaign when the White House pressured the INS into expediting its "Citizenship USA" (CUSA) program to grant citizenship to thousands of aliens that the White House counted as likely Democratic voters. To ensure maximum impact, the INS concentrated on aliens in key states — California, Florida, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, and Texas — that hold a combined 181 electoral votes, just 89 short of the total needed to win the election.

The program was placed under the direction of Vice President Al Gore. We received from the GAO a few e-mails indicating Vice President Gore’s role in the plan (which are included in Appendix A at the back of the book). He was responsible for keeping the pressure on, to make sure the aliens were pushed through by September 1, the last day to register for the presidential election.

In our investigation we uncovered a case study evidencing what is pejoratively known in political science circles as "Chicago Politics."

They’re short of the 67 votes in the US Senate.

We certainly wouldn't want to use a legitimate tool like impeachment to reign in a lawless president.

The subject of impeachment is never inappropriate and should never summarily be removed from the table. It is a Constitutional prerogative of the Legislative branch, and to "dismiss" it is a dereliction of Constitutional duty. We live in perilous times, and the republican "leadership" stands exposed as mere parliamentary whores.

To attempt impeachment would be political folly, even though Obama richly deserves it; but to refuse even to talk seriously about it is nonfeasance from the Congress.
