Friends moved to Cuenco, Equador.... lot’s of ex-pats. Beautiful and temperate... cheap organic food, housing etc. I have yet to visit... just returned from Europe, still considering Tuscany and Spain.

I use sperling’s best places to compare cities and the first place I look is the voting comparison.

finding your best place is fun, too. As my rheumatoid arthritis takes over I have to take that into consideration. My grandmother was crippled by it and dementia. My aunt just died from Alzheimers which is correlated. Over active immune system from stress, I think.

Have your tried Portugal? The food is so good and the people were very kind to me, a woman traveling alone ( at that time).

I have been curious about Ecuador. It does seem so far away, though.

It breaks my heart to think my husband wants to transplant us. But he thinks being an American is a state of mind, and you can take it with you. Still struggling with that.

it's getting rather tiresome to find more and more Liberal Democrats moving into this little town here in Gold Country.
They move here for the looks and feel of the area, then immediately try to change everything to be just like where they moved from.

That is exactly what they did to Florida over the last 50 years.
Florida was once a solid red state and a wonderful, easy-going, laissez-faire place to live.

When eastern/mid-western city liberals move into an area in the south they are escaping the big government, high tax cess pits they created 'back home'.

But upon arrival one of the first things they do is try to change their new neighborhoods and towns into replicas of the poop holes they just left.
They start pushing for bigger government, more "Free" services, commuter rail lines, etc., etc.

And most also bring their surliness, poor manners, know-it-all attitudes, and disrespect for locals.

It seems the first thing out of their mouths is "That's not how we do it back home."

Hay! It's where Rush got his first big show biz break!!!

But, let no one be fooled. It's still a big government town, lousy with liberals and located only a ten minute drive from The People's Republic of DAVIS!!!

“Points out a general difference we often see between liberals and conservatives.

Liberals, generally support big government micro-controls in every aspect of life and really are not comfortable with diversity of thought.

These two cannot even abide living in an area where there is a conservative down the road who exercises his first amendment rights.

Most conservatives I know have a live and let live respect for individual freedom.

Many live with strong viewed liberals nearby and just laugh at their idiocy and peccadilloes, but would not dream of letting the presence of a liberal drive them from their home.”

I got a similar series of observations from one of my conservative/Republican SILS.

If a conservative/Republican does not like guns, he doesn’t buy one. If a DemocRat does not like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a conservative/Republican is a vegetarian, he doesnot eat meat. If a DemocRat is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a conservative/Republican is homosexual, he quietly leads his life. If a DemocRat is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a conservative/Republican is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. If a DemocRat is down-and-out he wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative/Republican does not like a talk show host, he switches channels. A DemocRat demands that those they do not like be shut down.

If a conservative/Republican is a non-believer, he does not go to church. A DemocRat non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.

If a conservative/Republican decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it. If a DemocRat decides he needs health care, he demands that the rest of us pay for his health care.

Echoing the other Freepers re Raleigh.

We know a few who have left Californicator land to move to Raleigh. Everyone was a vocal/die hard liberal.

The worse one, is a son of people we know. The best description of him. He is a white Gay community organizer. He and his male partner move from city to city to agitate and use phony non profits to push the gay and eco agendas.

Here’s something that will help anyone: subscribe to the local paper where you think you want to move. My wife and I did this years ago when considering a career move and ended up not liking all of the potential locations we picked. By reviewing want ads, sales, letters to the editor, and especially local crime reporting, you can learn a lot that’s not spoken of by magazines taking advertising dollars from developers and chambers of commerce.

I haven’t yet made it to Portugal! Only thing that puts me off is learning portuguese :) Though my partner speaks portuguese... so we will see. Italian and Spanish I can manage, and their art and literature interests me. I’m currently leaning towards Tuscany... only because it’s centrally located and just so beautiful. Well if you move somewhere beautiful... you will have plenty of houseguests! And I’ve realized while traveling to always be on the look out for an irish bar.... generally where all the english speaking ex-pats go!

It sounds like it is true everywhere. LIBs are subhuman insects who attempt to destroy everything that isn’t them. They are hopeless, less than amusing and degenerate. LIBs are the bane of civilization throughout the world. Retirement must take their presence and numbers into consideration. They are very similar to moozlums.

In the Algarve of Portugal they have those narrow British pubs. That’s a good tip on how to make friends in a new place. The Irish pubs around the world are so friendly; they greet you like a hale fellow well met.

Portuguese is easy to read if you know Spanish, and it sounds kind of sexy, think Brazil 66, but with another accent.

I think you will be in heaven if you relocate to Tuscany. You can read A Room with a View with those views and write a book about renovating a villa and learning how to cook like a native. So much fun. Freeper roadtrip to your house when you get settled. (lol) We’ll all be posting on FR from your loggias.

Cali would be the last place in all the 57 states I’d pick to retire in - too expensive and the whole state is run by drooling morons like the subject of this article.
