What part of “shall not be infringed” allows them to do this?

How will they know unless gun registration is part of their little scheme?

All the parts they choose to ignore because, well, that’s just how they are.

Universal? Does that showing an ID to vote as well? Of course not. The Democrats need illegal aliens to illegally vote.

How will they know unless gun registration is part of their little scheme?

Ahh, but that's the trick isn't it? and the next shoe to drop... You see, the backers of the so-called "universal" background checks KNOW they are completely and utterly unenforceable as Colorado has found out without one successful prosecution to date and only an estimated 13% of private gun sales bothering to jump through the background check hoop. Since there is no record of who owns what guns and many if not most have already changed hands multiple times over the years, the government doesn't have the slightest idea how many guns are owned or who owns them any more than they know how many ball-point pens are owned and by whom. Hence, any "universal" background check systems is essentially on the honor system. If I sell a gun to my buddy Joe and don't bother to get the background check done, how does the government know I violated the law? Unless I'm stupid enough to write Joe a correctly dated receipt or Joe is stupid enough to pay me with a check (with Magnum .44 Serial Number 12343412 in the memo line) they don't.

So the next show to drop will be, "Those rascally gun owners are ignoring our precious universal background check system and we have no way to monitor or enforce it! But we have a simple "reasonable" fix! A law requiring all guns in the state to be registered, so we can monitor and enforce it, but for no other reason like future confiscation. Trust us.. (wink, wink)."

This is great news for Idaho’s gun sellers. All you WA and OR gun people, come on across the border. We don’t have universal background checks here.

I do not understand the inclusion of the word ‘UNIVERSAL’ with the idea of background checks.

I think it’s meant to convey that EVERY firearm transaction will/must be processed through “legal” processes. Whatever the heck that means. Basically if you want to show your neighbor your new firearm, you gotta go to an FFL and do a background check on them before your neighbor even touches it. Then before he gives it back to you, they have to do a background check on you.

Well, there’s an obvious way for Republicans to respond. Just like the ‘TSA pre-check’, allow people to have a back-ground check done & then get a card. If you hold that card, you can purchase a gun without further interference. If your friend or family member has a card, no issues with sharing or giving a gun. But it should be permanent, & only to be cancelled if you commit a crime which would prohibit you from owning a gun.

How about if you’re found GUILTY of committing a crime? But then again, why should you need a card if you are an upstanding law abiding citizen anyway. Same for CCW.

Yea, I know. But that’s not the world we’re living in, is it? If the leftists want to turn us all into criminals, we can say we’ve already been ‘proved innocent’ with a pre-check. It would just have to include the proviso that no further check is necessary when showing that card to a gun dealer, thereby preventing any kind of registration.

Oregon's shall issue law from the early '90s came paired with a background check law (at dealers),conducted by Oregon State Police.

A carry permit holder is/was originally exempt from the background check for dealer purchases, i.e. that was the "pre check" card.

I don't know if that is still in effect, since I don't make that kind of purchases (which are in fact registration), and I just use the carry permit I was born with.

Roger the born with rights. The current NV bgc uses a state system (I believe) but once the initiative passes, the FFL’s will be forced to use the NICS. Seems like the folks who signed the petition were sold on the same old meme of “It will close the gun show loophole and keep criminals and domestic abusers from getting guns.” And the signers most likely didn’t ask “How?” or delve in to the depths of the initiative. And most won’t look in to it prior to the (s)elections in ‘16 either. Sounds good and it’ll keep us safer. WRONG!

My husband & I are both carry permit holders. He recently bought a gun & still had to have the police check done, although it came through quickly surprising the gun dealer.

We have dems in charge at every level & we know they’re going to eliminate our gun rights if they’re able. People have to be willing to swarm the legislature to stop them, or the Republicans are going to have to put up a defensive strategy, which is what my suggestion was for.

I’m part of the Oregon Citizens Lobby, so I will be up there when they’re in session. We just need lots more folks to help push back on the leftist nonsense.
