If you'd tried to enter the arrest process as a citizen, you would have been arrested too, with possible physical force being applied to you as well. As another cop, you could have tried to intercede, but there was a supervisor (Sergeant) on the scene, and she did not step in. Officers follow their superiors orders. She obviously did not believe that any departmental policies were being violated. In fact, the Breitbart article says that all uniformed staff present did not feel that Garner's life was being threatened throughout the process.
Eric Garner resisted arrest... and when you resist arrest, you can potentially die.
People just have no respect for the police in this country.
If you give them a hard time, the price is always unpleasant.
Officer Daniel Pantaleo was enforcing the law. Don’t fault him for doing his job.

It is possible to talk while being choked depending on the level of tightness of arm around neck, again, affects breathing.
More lack of training by cops, the guy resisted is at fault but plenty of cops to control situation. Combined excessive force and guy’s health.

Just think to yourself, this cop who is choking me to death is a good fellow at heart. He doesn’t want to hurt me. He’ll stop before I die. No need to resist.
This way you can die with a clear conscience. You will not have offended the policeman who was only doing his duty after all.

I think people are second-guessing the system. Prosecutors can get a grand jury to do pretty much what they want by what evidence they present and how they present it. And it’s a private deal, so no one gets to see what went on. They can indict people who have no business being indicted. Likewise, when they want to protect someone, it’s easy enough to do, and then they can hide behind the grand jury’s decision. That’s why I think in a case like this, they should have had a public trial to let the public see that justice is being done.
I meant Darren Wilson of the Ferguson case- was there another officer named Wilson in this case? I was not aware..
I did know there was a black female officer present, in charge maybe even, and she should have put a stop to this.

The violent take-down, for a non-violent (sales tax) crime seems ridiculous. Write him an appearance ticket and move on.
Sure there are plenty of scumbags, no parenting, breakdown of the family home, etc, but the problem also is law enforcement has lost that respect.
On a grand scale they are losing it’s legitimacy, much like all sectors of government. They are losing the hearts and minds war and there will eventually be unintended consequences unfortunately even for the oath keepers. There’s a lot of peace officers doing the right thing; it’s a big country of course.
But corruption, double standard from DA, prosecutors, and the code of silence in the face of blatant illegal actions done and supported with no negative feedback from any police entity in the country has been devastating. Think the Dorner effect of opening fire on citizens with no charges filed, ICE not enforcing laws based on decrees, etc etc.
Since the paycheck and gang in blue camaraderie will run over the Constitution and rule of law for many, it will get worse, much worse. They’ll be Reinhard Heydrich moment of kickback and doubledown vengeance, then all hell will break loose. The fact some believe this will work with the most armed citizenry on the planet shows they are mad.
Country is one critical event away from history repeating itself, that means police stripping uniforms faster than 20 dollar prostitutes and armories getting plundered like in the 30’s. They don’t have the numbers and they have no chance.

At that point, he as at the whims of the emergency personnel and his physical capacity dependend on their treatment. The lack of concern and lack of basic emt skills within the police is evident.
The NYC tax payers will be funding Mr. Garner family endeavors for a while.
Exactly. Eric Garner was a danger to nobody but the government’s pocketbook. That’s hardly a reason to send no less than six trained thugs to throw him to the ground and grind his face into the pavement.
What, are conservatives supposed to just accept it and move on because Daniel Pantaleo had a badge? Because Al Sharpton and the others are upset about this as well? We’re so ideologically pure that we can’t even agree with the left on common sense issues like this?

I understand your compassion, but having worked in uniform, you need to know that the first thing perps cry about while being restrained is that they can’t breathe. It’s used as a ploy...just like whining that the cuffs are on too tight.
He obviously did that the last 30 times he was arrested for the same thing. Why resist now?
I’ve decided to use black/liberal logic in these cases, where I know nothing about the evidence.
Pantaleo is white, I’m white, therefore he is innocent.
