After a year of several fleet-wide groundings for the F-35, the latest problem to plague the fifth-generation fighter is forcing the U.S. Air Force to revamp an entirely separate fleet to support the militarys most expensive plane yet.
The F-35 can only fly on jet fuel under a certain temperature due to a range of heating issues attributed to the F-35B variants short takeoff and vertical landing engine. According to the USAF, the dark-green trucks that carry that fuel absorb too much heat from the sun to keep the planes in the sky.

they should have upgraded the Harrier and kept the F-22 program
typical number crunching morons

The F-35 performs aerobatics.
Is this airplane cursed ?
F-35 = White Elephant.
Fuel has been used as a coolant in many aircraft for various systems for years.
It’s not a new concept by any means.
Somebody is kidding us.
Agreed, I’m quite familiar with which you speak, having been a USAF maintainer for 20 years.
With the lack of specifics, as there are none offered in the article, I can’t make a more informed comment.
What’s important is that political donors made a fortune off the f35 project.
Actually, the SR-71 used its fuel as both a coolant and a hydronic in certain subsystems.
But then again, the fuel was a special blend to deal with the high skin temps of a MACH 3+ bird. The AB’s had to be chemically ignited because a plain old flame wouldn’t work.
Err hydrolic
Hydraulic.
The interesting thing is that all the tactical jets I have flown have had an oil/fuel heat exchanger to preheat the fuel and cool the oil.
Obama decided to use an Executive Order to violate the Stefan-Boltzmann Law. This is predictably what happens when we have a tyrannical Executive Branch.
The problem isn't in burning the fuel for propulsion - it's that the plane's systems which generate waste heat utilize the fuel supply like a heat sink. Having the fuel "pre-heated" causes electronic problems.
Damn, I gotta start paying more attention. Thanks for the correction.
:e mbarrassed, he shakes his head walking away mumbling..:
You owe me a new keyboard. Or at least tell me how to clean booger-infested coffee off the one I have.
Shiny side OUT!
Sorry Y'all- been sick since Thursday. I'll get the Withdrawal Thread going here soon.
Huh.. does the A10 have this issue?
‘Climate-change/global-warming’ creep....wait for it...
