Rep. Peter King Calls on Sports Teams to Wear NYPD Patch in Honor of Slain Officers
Pajamas Media ^ | 12/21/2014 | Rick Moran

Recently, professional athletes have made their feelings known about the protests sweeping the country over grand jury decisions not to indict police officers for the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.

Four members of the St. Louis Rams ran on to the field with their hands up, indicating their solidarity with protestors advancing the myth that Michael Brown died while surrendering. NBA players Derrickk Rose and LeBron James both wore “I can’t breathe” T-shirts during warm ups before recent games.

Whether intended or not, the protests cast blame upon the police, and caused much anger in the ranks of officers.

Now, New York Representative Peter King is suggesting that pro sports teams wear a NYPD patch on their uniforms to honor the officers executed yesterday. In an email, King urged:

To honor the memory of the two NYPD officers who were assassinated yesterday and to demonstrate solidarity with the brave men and women of law enforcement, I urge college and professional basketball, football and hockey teams to wear NYPD insignia on their uniforms. This would bring honor and dignity to the NCAA, the NBA, the NFL and the NHL.

The players would almost certainly refuse to wear the patches. How could they when they’ve already sworn allegiance to protestors who are celebrating the death of the officers? Will there be any signs of solidarity with police at all?

The players have placed themselves in an impossible situation. They swear their protest was not directed against the police. But that’s exactly how the protestors viewed their actions. Changing their stance and wearing a NYPD patch on their uniforms would bring cries of hypocrisy from the activists who are fanning the flames of racial unrest.

My guess is that before NFL games today, there will be a moment of silence to honor the police officers. That will be the extent that the NFL sticks its neck out for the police.

You realize, of course, that the sports team members would be called upon to hold two diametrically opposed “bumper sticker” slogans simultaneously in their heads, and this could cause either a full-fledged instance of Orwellian “double-think”, or may result in open schizophrenia.

Neither police officer who were slain were, strictly speaking, “white”, but they still represented “The Man”.

Don’t give a flying f**K about what athletes wear. Just play the game and keep your, for the most part, ignorant ideology out of the game.

You're pretty vocal about things.

Peter King's well documented problems aside, wouldn't you wear such a patch if you were a pro athlete?

Is this the one that supposedly tried to kill 2 more but the gun jammed? Or another one?

He looks like he has about a 2-watt IQ.

De Blasio has released the dork population, who recognize in him one of their own, and I’m sure they’re flooding into NYC even as we speak.

Prayers for NYC cops. I remember one time when I was a kid in NYC, we were engaged in a rock fight on Riverside Drive with other kids (they were all black, and had actually attacked us first) and a young red-headed cop came up to us, slapping his nightstick in his hand, and said, “Hey, youse kids, ya want me to use this? Because I will...”

We were all terrified, and after he sent away the group that had attacked us, he told us not to get involved in things like that and mess up our lives. We were a mixture of kids of Irish and Hispanic descent. But of course, we had the support of a community and families that didn’t want us to mess up either, whereas now, the family has been replaced by the government, and government at practically all levels is under the control of racist, leftist lunatics.

Screw the athletes. Let’s flip the dynamic by not paying to see their stupid antics, and remind them who is really in charge.

If you mean the NYPD patch, I think I would regard it as mandatory, and I would not need the urging of a RINO.

Meaning I would mandate it for myself and not want to hear any other person trying to make it a mandate for others. And that is not to be interpreted as supporting bad police officers.

Keep politics out of sports!! Politicians need to do their jobs not ask someone else to do it for them.

Let’s stop politicizing sports. In fact, stop all the PC public service campaigns. BTW, those pink shoes really bother me.
The statists need to politicize sports because fewer people are watching their propaganda news shows, so they indoctrinate the public via movies, sports, TV.

Should change the Lakers’ t-shirts to say: “I Can’t Win.”

I think the “fans” who attend the NBA games and support the NBA league are “The View” and Colbert fans. But that’s all typical, if you are a high school teacher sleeping with student athletes ...
