At Demonstrations, a Change in Tone After Officers Are Killed
New York Times ^ | 21 Dec 14 | LIZ ROBBINS and NIKITA STEWART

For weeks after a Staten Island grand jury declined to indict a white police officer in the chokehold death of a black man, civil rights rallies in New York City had gathered momentum and spurred dialogue among activists and city officials.

But the conversation, in one shocking instant on Saturday, took an unexpected turn.

One day after two police officers were fatally shot at point-blank range as they sat in their squad car in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, leaders of several groups who had been rallying for criminal justice reform scrambled to condemn the killings while still keeping the push for police reform alive.

Justice League NYC, an organization that had met with Mayor Bill de Blasio on Friday, held a march as planned on Sunday night. But after the killings, the route was redirected to end at First Corinthian Baptist Church in Harlem for a service of healing to remember all victims of violence — including police officers. “An act of violence is against humanity,” Carmen Perez, a co-founder of Justice League NYC, said in a telephone interview. The group is an organization of criminal justice advocates that has planned several of the recent protests. “It’s not mutually exclusive. We can mourn Eric Garner and the two officers. It’s O.K. to do that.”

On Sunday, it was too early to predict how the killings would affect future protests. But that night, the march in Harlem, attended by more than 200, was subdued.

Instead of chanting Mr. Garner’s last words, “I can’t breathe,” participants held candles as they walked and sang the children’s gospel song “This Little Light of Mine.”

•13-year-old son of NYPD officer says goodbye to 'best dad in the world'

That was one of the saddest things I have ever read.

I take it the MSM won't be dwelling too much on the slain officer's son and what he has to say.

Everyone who protested and encouraged the protesters has blood on their hands.

Hi Sara,

When I look at this photo, I simply cannot fathom the lawlessness that has engulfed our nation. Our chief law enforcement officer, the one who took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, hugging and greeting agitators who are no more than terrorists and riot inciters.

In fact, that is all Holder is. He was a Black Panther, and today he is simply a terrorist drawing $200+ a year (plus benefits), a limo, security detail, personal expense budget, six figure travel budget, free access to executive jets, and wearing a fancy suit.

I have not read the book so I have no opinion on its conclusions. I do find it amusing that the same group that treats Darwin as gospel and scoffs at any type of creation or intelligent design somehow thinks that humans evolving in radically different environments from each other would end up mentally identical as if there is some devine force keeping everything “fair”.

the next demonstration will be by thousands of merchants who will lose business thanks to the NYC mayor, starting with dropping the ball revenue.

I was in NYC last month (saw the Rockettes, fantastic show).

I was completely impressed by the behavior and actions of the NYC Police. We were watching the Christmas tree being assembled in Rockefeller Plaza. Cops would take little kids who came up to the barriers with them behind the barrier, let them pick out pieces of the pine tree branches that had fallen to the pavement, and then let the kids take a picture with them.

I got turned around in Times Square, and asked a cop. He was so helpful and friendly that I was literally blown away.

I think the New Year's celebration will still be huge, but I am staying away from Philly, NYC, and Boston for while until things calm down. The inner city yutes have been on a rampage for months, and until there is a crack down on their lawlessness, I will stay away from cities.

"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace."

1 Peter 4:10

God gives each of us gifts. There is no "evolution" - although I do firmly believe that human behavior and cultures are influenced by physical geography (i.e. those raised in desert vs. temperate climates), as well as social and religious factors. Those raised in the Judeo-Christian west are vastly different from those raised in Muslim nations (even if the former are largely secular, there is still a bond of the past and the west's religious foundations).

If you read the Old Testament, you see God vividly describe various races and tribes of people ( from Midan, Cush, Assyria, Egypt, Gomer, Canaan, Edom, Ammon, Persia, Scythia, etc).

He also describes differences from one people to the next (some as warriors, others as merchants, others as skilled artisans, others as brutal, etc).

Jesus said that all are welcome at His Father's table, and that He came to save the whole world. He is great equalizer - all are sinners, and all are in need of a Savior.

It is, however, not true that God does not recognize differences between people and nations. He judges both individuals, and He judges nations. He made all races, and they are sacred in that way, but there are different gifts given and there are differences.

What I was taught in public school was that there were NO differences between any peoples. Not in intellect, not in motivation, not in temperament, not in shared values. We were all the same - one big melting pot of humanity.

Then, something changed - there were suddenly differences, and we had to "celebrate" them - "Celebrate Diversity!" The Left began to sense its power, and wanted to marginalize and "fight back against its oppressors!"

What I quickly discovered was that this was code word for "Celebrate Everybody Except Those of European Descent!"

No, of course, they won’t, that would just reinforce white privilege. Y’know, for white hispanics.

I think you missed a critical point of The Bell Curve: by subsidizing subnormals to spew out more subnormals that they neither raise properly nor support, we’re increasing the subnormal population as a percentage.

Good question, considering that Holder could be a co-conspirator.

I agree that Holder is a lawless, racist mess. It’s been shocking how brazen he’s been. I guess having a homie in the white hut has made him feel free to act out.

Yes, the author's put it a bit differently, but I understand your point.

I met a WW II vet earlier this year, in his 90's, an African-American man of incredible manners, disposition, and integrity.

The difference between him and the current generations of sloths (both black, white, and all races for that matter) was that he was raised by a stout, two parent family, in a Christian home. He was taught love of country in his schools, and hard work and discipline at home and in his church. His character was molded through hardship and adversity.

Romans 5: 3-4

"Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope."

With illegitimacy at over 70% in the black community (approaching 95% in some inner cities), and several generations now raised to feel entitled, absolved of responsibility and civilized behavior, and with politicians and the media making every excuse for them - they are a "culture" that has descended into the sewer.

That WW II veteran might as be a Martian to them, because they are that different.
