This one really is Bush's fault.

My question is “how many lawyers, Democrat PACs, politicians and human rights geeks were clamoring for release of Gitmo Prisoners during the runup to this?”

Sad but true.
I assume we got some good intel from these guys, but I wonder if it would have been better if they just got killed on the battlefield during their capture.

I could too. But you know that Obama doesn’t ever, EVER deliver on what he’s promised. Fair warning!

Was it Bush who signed the release or was it some ACLU lawyer who worked the system?

Obama has directly worked for release. I’m not aware that Bush did.

In a case like this, where jihadis have been released from custody, there really should be no return to prison. Sweat them for whatever they know, then summary execution.

While Bush was president, for sure, Holder’s law firm got a couple dozen jihadis released.

Something here sounds fishy.

Maybe this guy slipped through the cracks or a Democratic mole in the DoD or State Department signed for him to be released.

It could even be that once Obama took office, this released terrorist became even more radicalized and had to be placed on the capture list.

Wouldn’t it have been more cost effective to have kept him in Gitmo?

The U.S. government has also offered a $5 million reward for information that could lead to al-Rubaysh’s capture.

Why? So that they can then release him again?

All it takes is a stupid politician who feels compassion or wants to flex ‘their’ muscle - both democrat and republican to kill thousands or millions of people. It seems they nearly all walk away with lots of money and live a long life.

Sadly, it was indeed Bush, Condi Rice, and Bandar who cooked up the Saudi rehab scheme to try and get the Saudi prisoners out of Gitmo for political reasons on both ends.

No, it was a deliberate Bush policy, enacted at the behest of the Saudis.

Your link doesn't mention Bush policy.

Marron in post #9 is correct. I remember Holder and his people working diligently to lawyer these detainees up and work for their release. At least #2 or #3 under Holder who worked at DOJ recently specialized in this.

It doesn't mattered what Holder was or was not doing at the time. Bush was president, Condi was Secretary of State, and Bandar wanted the Saudi terrorists back. The 2008 election was on the horizon, and so they obliged the Saudis, thinking that they were killing two birds with one stone.

It was the exact same kind of thinking that got Hamas elected in Gaza, and Musharraf tossed out in Pakistan. All disasters, and they were Bush and Condi's fault.

Period.
