Belatedly Released and Revealing Fast & Furious Docs

The Department of Justice improperly withheld public documents related to Fast and Furious after the first Freedom of Information (FOI) requests for them several years ago. The agency was recently forced to produce some of the materials to the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, which filed a FOI lawsuit to obtain the information. (To date, the Justice Department still has not complied with FOI law in providing the same public documents to me as a FOI requestor.)

Fortunately, Judicial Watch has posted the documents for public review. The Justice Department is still withholding thousands of documents. The thousands of documents provided are often heavily redacted. A review of hundreds of pages so far has revealed no obvious, legitimate basis under which President Obama should have invoked executive privilege, as he did, to withhold them public from congressional subpoena and other public reviews.

Clues as to why President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder kept the public documents secret for so long may be found in one 60-page release examined below. Nearly three years after-the-fact, its news value is diminished. If these documents had been turned over when Congress subpoenaed them or when they were first requested under FOI law, they would have revealed damaging information in the lead-up to President Obama’s re-election in 2012. By exerting executive privilege, the President and Holder kept them hidden until the court challenge forced their release.

I would like to contrast the years of delay on producing documents that were heavily redacted verses a Freedom of Information Document that I requested.

I requested information concerning the FDA approval of a specific drug and the clinical trials concerning this drug in a new slow release formulation. The drug was not a new drug, but the slow release formulation was new.

This information was provided in a timely manner, 60 days ain't bad for the government. There were no redactions in the document.

It is plain to see that the years of delay in providing information on Fast and Furious is a function of the Obama Administration COVERING UP THEIR CRIMES.

I thought this was just rhetoric for the last year. But now, I am in agreement. Holder and obama can and will do everything they can and they know that NO ONE WILL STOP THEM and their progressive enablers.

Sadly, I believe you’re right.

What’s even more sad .. the new crop who have just arrived may also be tainted by the old group and we’ll be no better off. After Boehner’s betrayal .. I’m not sure I can trust any of them.

We're chasing our tails with the whole "President" thing. The fall of the Republic happened because CONGRESS has been abdicating ALL of their powers as fast as it is convenient to do so, for at least 100 years.

As things stand now, Members of Congress, as long as they don't actually DO anything, have lifetime tenure for as long as they wish, are able to receive bribes without limit (a/k/a "campaign contributions"), can move to K Street when even the bribes are not enough to satisfy their material and sexual appetites, and can go back home and complain about the "bureaucrats", "regulators", and "judges" who are exercising the SOLE legislative powers we granted to CONGRESS in the first place.

The "Republicans" (whatever that means) need 67 votes in the Senate to convict "Obama", and there aren't 67 Republican senators.

You presume, BTW, that the Republican caucus desires the removal of "Obama", when it's quite clear that this is not the case.
