Alice Cooper, Christian: The world belongs to Satan
CNS News ^ | 12/31/2014 | Michael W Chapman

Alice Cooper, the shock-rock megastar who makes Marilyn Manson look like a choir boy, stopped his hard-partying ways and returned to his Bible Christian roots in the late 1980s and today, still hugely popular and touring, says he isn’t shy about discussing his faith, says his early songs always warned against choosing evil, and contends that the world we live in “doesn’t belong to us, it belongs to Satan.”

“The world doesn’t belong to us, it belongs to Satan,” said Alice Cooper. “We’re living with that. We’re bombarded with that every day.”

“[A]lmost everything I wrote was good and evil,” he said. “Don’t pick evil. Even when I wasn’t Christian, I was saying that. God and the Devil. Don’t pick the Devil. It’s a bad idea.”

Alice Cooper (born Vincent Damon Furnier) shot to mega-stardom in the 1970s and early 1980s with hits such as “I’m 18,” ‘Schools’ Out” and the 1973 album, Billion Dollar Babies. He also was notorious for his demonic makeup and costumes and macabre theatrics on stage, which included simulated suicide and the decapitation of baby-dolls, among other dark antics.

Alice Cooper was nominated for two Grammy Awards and he and his band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. He has played roles in several movies, including Wayne’s World with Mike Myers and Dana Carvey and, perhaps most ironically given his shock-rock music career, Cooper is an avid and skilled golfer.

Cooper scored a two-over par 74 on The Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., a world-class course; he played in the All Star Cup in Newport, South Wales; he has appeared in commercials for Callaway Golf equipment; and he is the author of Alice Cooper, Golf Monster.

“How can existence be evil? God created creation. He saw that it was Good. He is the great I Am.

Existence is not evil.”

Then why, until The Return, does evil win? You read The Book.

When God says “and it was good” I take that to mean that it would serve His purpose. His Purpose, as far as I can tell, seems to be to test to see who will follow Him in Faith and who will refuse. The earth is fallen. It is nothing. It is expendable.

It's almost like they became a completely different band. And my preference has always been the early stuff.

That's exactly what happened. The early albums were very good musically, but didn't sell well. They got Shriek Perry on board, wrote some bubble-gummy tunes, and the rest is history.

"If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are,” he said. “Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal."

Cooper continued, “Besides, when I read the list of people who are supporting Kerry, if I wasn't already a Bush supporter, I would have immediately switched. Linda Ronstadt? Don Henley? Geez, that's a good reason right there to vote for Bush."

I've been a fan since his bad boy days. BTW, the photo of him and his wife at the end of the article is awesome.

The devil made me do it. It was not in my own mind. I shouldn’t be held to account for stuff Satan does. He’s responsible. Not me.

It’s an anti-monotheistic cop-out.

...Our topic is music from the 20th and 21st century...

I have a narrow slice of that range; I switched over to talk radio in about 1970 and never went back!

Count me in the Rush/GenX camp. Zep never did it for me. I don’t hate them. I get theit impact/importance. but will take bad Rush over Good Zep.

Moving Pictures for the win. Red Barchetta is still one of my favorite songs ever. Imagery, virtuosity, a beat to die for. Very little ‘wrong’ in that one.

I am however, grateful to Journey for many a high school dance/Kegger. But no, Zep they will never be ;)

Its somewhat generational I'm 57 Zep was the bees knees I respect Rush too....their early Rand references Three guys like Cream or Top Plus being MS boy I cut teeth on what constituted their roots and I also lived the environs.....Delta I also liked the English countryside faērie stuff Journey was like Styx or Supertramp Chicks liked them better Your formative years music is like 10-17 67-74 for me Which likely explains things better But newer stuff grew on me....still does Avenged Seven Fold or Five Finger Death Punch My boys listen to all that sons of Painters staff Its OK....Hail to the King has an Iron Maiden feel Though I preferred Motorhead Music today is in trouble any white person under 45 will know hip hop more than they like to admit Just watch white girls dance And Rock is just over reinventing My kids all listen to old stuff too ITunes and Raphsody see to that Wonder how long for? I didn't listen to 20s music in 1965 My 12 year old boy and I drove to Asheville last nite and I put on saw her standing there...50 years later Will he listen to Avenged Sevenfold in 2065? I was blessed music wise and hero wise

Never cared for avenged. Too screamo for me. Talented group though.

The musical high point of my life was Maiden, Motorhead and Dio in Phoenix / Dance of Death era. For me, Maiden is it (I’m 49). Dickenson and CO can do no evil.

Existence is not evil.

Existence is most evil of ALL things.
