Vice President Biden might not be the only car junkie in the West Wing.
A trip to a Ford factory outside of Detroit on Wednesday left President Obama drooling over the latest model of the auto manufacturers iconic Mustang sports car.
While touring the factory, Obama inspected versions of the companys F-150 pick-up truck and the Focus, a compact sedan that has seen sales spike in recent years. But it was a cherry red Mustang that drew the most attention from Obama, who declared that he needed to get into the car.
This is an American car, right here, this Mustang, Obama said. That's beautiful."
The president continued to swoon over the car when speaking to autoworkers shortly after his tour.
I have to say I love Secret Service. I love the beast that they put me in, Obama said, referencing the heavily-armored presidential limo.
But I just had a chance to look at these new Mustangs, and I got to say that the Mustangs had a little more style, a little more flavor.
He later told the crowd that he wanted to come to Michigan because this state proves no matter how tough times get, Americans are tough.
And plus, I wanted to see the new Mustang, he added.
The appearance echoed Bidens appearance at the Detroit auto show a year ago, when the vice president declared himself a car junkie and spoke of his fathers work managing a pair of car dealerships.
During that trip, Biden showered praise on the Corvette Z06, a new sports car unveiled at the auto show by GM. The vice president compared it to a 1967 Corvette Stingray his father gave him as a wedding present that he still keeps at his Delaware home.
I just want you to know that that 67 was zero to 60 in 5.5 seconds, Biden said. I didnt do that
but it was. But this new Corvette, Z06, is zero to 60, allegedly, in 3.4 seconds.
Vanilla puddin too.
(but not with the girl - unfortunately)
My son in law works at that Ford Plant Obama visited. Guess what? They were all laid off this week due to his visit. They return to work next week. It was for security reasons they were all told.
Hmm. Front wheel drive.
Amazing. Not surprising, but amazing. I’m sorry for your son.

Ooo! I love that!

Hussein does drive. Golf carts, that is..
Mine was a ‘63 356b coupe, bought in 1970, and I regretted it the day after I sold it! I had college tuition to pay!
“What a waste of machinery”.....Said to Toad in ‘American Graffiti’ but it works here also.
Where's the ash tray?
Around 1965 Oldsmobile produced the perfect car. I was a Delta 88 with a 425 Rocket V8 with 370 HP. You could cruise the internet at 80 all day long in total comfort.
It wasn’t quite as fast as the real muscle cars but it wasn’t a slouch by any means. It had posi-traction and would almost always beat everybody for the first 100 yards.
I would love to have that car back just like it was and brand new. It’s only problem was it used premium.
the most surprising thing was it was really nimble on the crooked roads. You could make it drift and be totally in control as to when to break out of the drift.
Just a great American Car.
obama never has had a driver’s license. He is an illegal with 3 birth certificates and a dead man’s social security number.
Woa.....you actually owned one of those? Even the replicas these days are going for top dollar.
Lost a little of the Mustang-ness on the front fascia with the corporate Ford trapezoid grill and the sweeping headlights, but still nice. Picked up a much better, hunkered down stance and a very pretty 3/4 view, the “hips” kicking up over the rear wheels, the taper of the rear window and the slope of the roof are just about perfect for a modern Mustang. Two thumbs up, and I’m not a Mustang guy by any stretch. I’ve heard that pictures don’t do them justice.
The beast they put him in? I thought he liked the beast put into HIM!
