Obama proposes free community college program

WASHINGTON – President Obama on Thursday proposed making community college free "for everybody who is willing to work for it." In a video posted on Facebook, the president previewed his plan, which will be formally announced during a trip to Tennessee Friday. "It's not for kids," Obama said. "We also have to make sure that everybody has the opportunity to constantly train themselves for better jobs, better wages, better benefits."

The proposal drew an immediate critical response from House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, who said, "with no details or information on the cost, this seems more like a talking point than a plan."

This proposal is only marginally different than giving student loans for college for degrees that have no hope of returning the investment. What Obama is proposing removes the moral hazard of having to repay the loan.

I’m sure this program will produce a better result. /s

Yes.

I was working full time and attending night classes at a private women’s college. Tuition was astronomical but worth it and I worked nonstop to pay for it.

During a review for an upcoming exam, a black girl in front of me dozed. At the end of class she awoke, and was standing there, leisurely stretching with a satisfied grin on her face. I asked her if she was worried about the exam and she said no. I pressed her, “Aren’t you worried about failing??!!” Her response was that I would just pay for her to take the class again.

Wonder how many babies she has on welfare now with who knows how many baby daddies. The scam is for them to stay in school. They get free tuition, living expenses and some sort of a stipend to stay in school. I read that it is not uncommon for them to have multiple degrees but to stay in school instead of actually having to work.

This is not going to be easy.

Right. And he won't even be possible if we try to compete with a nation like China which produces engineers and scientists at a rate which dwarfs ours while we produce students of gender studies and African-American studies.

Those stuck on the lower reaches of the escalator pathetically seize these straws believing that if they learn this nonsense they will prosper in a world well into its third great revolution being utterly transformed by technology. Even at that, they will not be able properly to express their half-baked notions of feminism and white privilege in English because they will not have learned how do real work. They will not have learned how to read and digest great amounts of material, how to analyze, how to criticize it, how to express its essence in serviceable English.

In short, they will be half educated but fully indoctrinated graduates fit only for twitter and Facebook. Meanwhile, freshly minted Chinese engineers and scientists will push them farther and farther down the escalator.

Obama Proposes Federalizing and Debasing Community Colleges.

"Free" community college will keep Americans out of the work force longer and give the wetbacks a head start in the job market.

Pajama Boy wants 2 more years of ‘education’ before it costs anything. This is the equivalent of grades 13 & 14 of High School.

Why is there this need to delay adulthood? Is is because the Obama Administration looks at the youth unemployment and this is the ONLY answer that they can see?

This has always been my complaint about “the news.” Everyone knows what’s new, but no one knows what the hell is going on. Same thing with government schooling. What we need in addition to facts is analysis. That’s why I like to listen to Beck and Levin.

Oh yeah, and Obama demands a minimum of a 2.5 GPA, which equates to basic literacy.

It’s obvious that part of the Obama strategy to prove his relevance over the next two years is to propose “free stuff”, and then blame the Republicans for not providing it. A good response to this would be to simply say: “We’re awaiting your proposed legislative bill”. He obviously can’t provide one since ha hasn’t in the last six years for any of his other proposals.

I decided not to assume that Boehner will oppose this.

Cars should be free as well. Food also. Cell phones as well. Also health care.

He wants this to be first step to completely “free” college.

ding ding ding ding.....WE HAVE A WINNER!!!

Free college will be combined with Student Loan Forgiveness as core issues for the 2016 Democrat campaign. EEEEEEVIL Republicans will be vilified as "obstructionists", merely because no one can figure out a way to actually pay for it.

The football coach at our rural MN community college recruits that demographic heavily. One was recently stabbed to death in an early morning fight. Their team isn’t very successful and many of those recruits can’t keep grades up or handle living away from the city so they leave after one season. Local high school coaches can’t figure out why he doesn’t recruit the decent local players who may not be ready for a 4 year school, but would stay eligible and in the area for a few years while gaining training in their chosen field.

I knew a young single mom (white, middle class) when I was in college. I was pretty naïve about how welfare worked. When she told me that all she had to do was maintain a C average and she got tuition, books and housing paid for plus living expenses I was shocked and livid. I was working a part time job, taking out loans and maintaining an A- average to keep my academic scholarship...which covered 10% of the tuition. What a joke.

He wants to take community colleges that are affordable and make them unaffordable.

Interesting, since he is destroying those better jobs with better wages.
