If Palin and Levin Walk, the 2016 Nomination Is Not Worth Having
American Thinker ^ | January 9, 2015 | M. Joseph Sheppard

It's all very simple: the Republicans lost Florida in the 2012 presidential election by 0.88. If conservatives stay at home in 2016 in the same numbers as they did in 2012, then there is no chance of the GOP winning. If conservatives are advised by Governor Palin (unlike in 2012) and Mark Levin to either stay home or vote third-party, then it is impossible to see how Florida could be won by, for example, Jeb Bush.

However, for argument's sake, if, because of Bush's Florida connection and a bad economy, Florida is won, then Ohio (-2.98%), Virginia (-3.88%), and Colorado (-5.36%) also have to be roped-in. The road to 270 Electoral College votes is extremely difficult under the most optimal of circumstances; utter realism indicates that it is impossible with the slightest bleeding off of actual or potential votes from 2012.

What Ralph Nader did for Al Gore's hopes in 2000 would be a pinprick compared to the mountain a Republican nominee would face with a conservative base doing a de Blasio back-turn. There is no comparison with Reagan's 1980 victory, even though there was Republican John Anderson, running as an independent, who got 6.6% of the vote. This is because a Republican won't win both New York and California, as Reagan did, for the foreseeable future.

If the Republican nominee is an establishment figure, a Bush or a Christie, then he has to face the question of his relationship with Governor Palin. Mitt Romney didn't have her as part of his campaign or even have her address the Republican Convention (at which she was the star just four years earlier) in 2012. What did that avail him? There is, of course, no way to determine if the millions of potential GOP voters who stayed home might have turned out...

Brilliant post. Judges cannot say black is white and expect us to go along with it, just as they can’t say that the Constitution requires gay marriage and abortion. It’s time to stop consenting to their nonsense.

Exactly! You nailed it, kidd. Scott walker is the one we need to get behind early and with a united voice. He’s no RINO and he has stomped the libs on their own turf. Just wait for John Stewart/SNL/Bill Mahr to start tearing into him and you will know they are threatened.

Sorry to be late to this thread, but it is an important one, among several about the subject of leaving the Republican party that have been bandied about lately. I wanted to just add this one thought to all the good comments in this thread:

Boehner has shown that he is a coward when it comes to Democrats. If Obama threatens to do something, Boehner caves in. He doesn't even have to do it, just release a leak to a left wing newspaper, and Boehner will do as Obama demands. Thus we got Cromnibus, because God forbid we don't give Obama everything he wants. He might shut down the government and blame us, and we can't have that.

We also know he reacts the opposite to conservative threats. When opposed from the right, he fights hard and dirty. Lies to his own members. Lies to the voters. Fails to make bills available. Takes committee positions away. Etc. etc.

Would this coward stand up to Palin, Cruz, Levin and Limbaugh backed by tens of millions of Tea Party Americans? Or would he cave in, as is his custom? I am not sure, but I would like to test him with the same kind of threats that Obama issues to him daily. For example, Palin, Cruz, Levin and Limbaugh announce that if the House funds amnesty and Obamacare, they are leaving the party and taking the formal steps to create the party, and raising the money for it, of which Limbaugh pledges to provide the first $5 million, would he proceed? In other words, wield the threats against Boehner the way that Obama does. Force him to choose which side he fears or respects more. And then act accordingly.

I think he would choose Obama, because I think he is actually a progressive. But it would give him a chance to reconsider and do the right thing. It would give us the event needed to make the final break. And it would help start the mass movement needed to bring the reign of the uniparty to an end.

"If the 'base' of a party doesn’t actually vote for the candidates that the party runs how can it be considered 'the base'?"

We conservatives have been the base of the Republican party for a long long time, but it's becoming clear to millions of us, that we're more akin to hostages or vote slaves, than partners in that political party.

There's no doubt, that in the next election, the usual suspects will come out fear mongering that, "You must vote GOP, because.......Democrats!" That's going to ring mighty hollow after the betrayals we've recently witnessed (Mississippi, Cromnibus, Speaker vote, etc.).

Thing is, low info Republican voters will pull the lever for a true conservative OR a worthless RINO - merely because they've got an R next to their name. The same can't be said of true conservatives - the proof of which are the results of the 2012 presidential election.

Any thinking strategist worth their salt would exhort the GOP to run real conservatives for office, given the above reality. That's IF they want to win elections. If they're ok with losing, and reverting back to being the Washington Generals, then that tells you all you need to know about them.

Frankly, I think most of us have already drawn that conclusion.

"California has 55 electoral votes."

And adding 2 Senators for each "new" state would increase that total.

Walking away could work, but Conservatives must still vote for the Congressional seats.

Levin proved what his hot air about leaving is worth twice now. He’s still there. When Kerry or Obama draws unfulfilled red lines, we call them on it. Levin isn’t a unique little snowflake immune. Palin and Cruz either need to leave the party or they merely continue anchoring people to it and as such, deserve no support until they do leave it.

Evil is evil. There is no “I support this but not that” crap. If one votes GOP, one empowers evil.

White voters in the midwest are probably 3 times more signifiant than hispanic voters in the electoral college.

I think in 2016, if a conservative duo runs for POTUS/Vice POTUS we will see a conservative outpouring like the dayz of Ronald Reagan.

Think about it. Conservatives pushed the country to the right in this last election and the election before last. Very difficult to go too much further to the right because of states that vote for McCain, McConnell, Graham and such, but for president...everyone votes for two fellers, not hundreds.

I believe in my heart of hearts that the communist cheated big time in the last election. Not only did they use the IRS and other agencies to intimidate the conservative electorate, there was massive voter fraud.

I think America's had enough! We will see. 2016 is the conservatives last stand. Democrats and Republicans alike will spend millions to water down and marginalize the conservative candidates.

Look how she’za shaping up already. Christie, Romney, Jeb, Graham, Ehrlich, Fiorina, Walker, Rubio, Peter King, Pataki.

Also, Texas needs to have our primary in January or February to make a bigger conservative impact. We are set for March 1st, typically leading up to it, the feral gubbamint files a lawsuit against Texas, delaying our primary until April, May or even June. By this time, the front runners are already chosen.

we are screwed no matter what. Not saying we give up but....

1. Pubs nominate RINO = conservatives stay home = dems win

2. Conservatives try some 3rd pty candidate = dems win by landslide

3. Pubs nominate a conservative like Cruz = dems win

Our new fuhrer will be Hitlary.

While I will probably stay home or vote Third Party if Jeb is the GOP nominee, it won't be because I'm "advised" to do so by Sarah Palin, Mark Levin, or anyone else. I'm perfectly capable of making my own decisions about who I vote for or don't vote for.

Palin and Levin are not going to bolt.

If they haven’t had enough reasons by now, they are going nowhere else.

Same with most of the conservatives. They will gripe and complain, and head for the voting booth to cast their vote for whomever the Republicans nominate. The ‘gutzy’ ones might stay home — again, if it is another Bush or Romney or even Christie.

‘Battered Conservatives Syndrome’ will afflict them, but they won’t leave.
