The L'Enfant Plaza Metro station has been evacuated due to smoke in the station.
Metro says trains are bypassing the station and the station has been temporarily closed.
Metro says the source of the smoke has not been determined and it has activated tunnel fans to ventilate the area.

Just a few days ago there was a small fire on the track at the same stop, which caused delays but amounted to not much. This may be an aggravated repeat of the same problem:

Probably totally unrelated to the unexplained power outages that have been occurring at federal facilities in and around Washington. A few of those have even made it to the media, but most seem to be unreported. (Haven’t the feds heard of backup generators?)
Not really.... It's mainly because so many excellent Freepers have been purged from the ranks. Used to be that whenever breaking news was happening I'd head first to FR and there were always some actual subject matter experts commenting. But most of those people have been purged. It's too bad. It's a life cycle thing. FR's best days are in the past.
I think that no one cares because it is DC, now if this event were taking place in Memphis it would highly active breaking news.
FBI and Homeland security are investigating.
Carbon Dioxide intoxication.

Metro Rider Captures L’Enfant Plaza Train Filled With Smoke
Yes, agreed - FR has been on a downward trek for some time. I have not usually commented too much (usually - I have my moments) and have never posted a thread. What I have noticed are the poster’s nastiness - some are quite vile. The FR in which there were bright, fun posts with wicked humor are basically gone. Now it’s just a brawl. I have even been reported to the FR authorities and to the one himself for not agreeing with every thought that has been uttered here. But I keep coming back.
Incidentally, almost 100% of Metro employees are black. They can be quite nasty to whites who have a question or problem when using the system.
Not worth some oxygen and a stretcher,it appears. Mayor of DC must be a racist to have that done to a Black man. Call Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Muriel Bowser to lead a protest against the mayor's office.
Good grief. This constant harping on stuff that has nothing to do with the subject matter has gotten old.
I don’t think they actually remove/retire stories. The new ones just push the old ones down the list. I think they are just too restrictive on what they let up there.
Also, why when a thread is closed as a duplicate, is it left on the sidebar?
Some one down there smoking a Pell Mell?
Pisslam strikes again.
