Not really.... It's mainly because so many excellent Freepers have been purged from the ranks. Used to be that whenever breaking news was happening I'd head first to FR and there were always some actual subject matter experts commenting. But most of those people have been purged. It's too bad. It's a life cycle thing. FR's best days are in the past.
I don't think that is it at all. I see the stories up there, if I am willing to page through the main list; they just don't make it onto the sidebar in time to be useful as breaking news.

...although I did post a story on Breaking News once a few months ago, and it was there for at least a full day, then vanished from the sidebar (not pushed down & off by newer stories).

I find it hard to believe that with that amount of smoke, they don’t know where it could be coming from.

Back in September 2001 I was working in DC and took Metro to work; soon after that I started riding my bike. It saved me a ton of money and time, plus it was a million times safer — even safer than riding on M Street in Georgetown at 5:00 on a Friday afternoon.

Are Fed buildings on a separate grid? I would assume they get their power from the local POCO like any office building. Though they might have feeds from more than one circuit along with backup power.

“Metro has an established history of cutting all sorts of corners on maintenance. “

Let’s not forget that Metro has a history of racist hiring of less qualified personnel and a very strong union. They have a very poor maintenance record, and it has nothing to do with how much money Metro has and how much money the workers are paid.

“Are Fed buildings on a separate grid?”

Not that I’m aware of. That’s what makes the story interesting.

They can definitely remove a post from there, and do so sometimes when they feel it doesn’t belong there. Just saying for posts that they think belonged there at some time, I don’t think they retire them.

They definitely thought my post belonged there, because they allowed it there and left it there for at least a full day; it might actually have been two or even three days.

There was a 3 alarm fire at Penn Station NYC this morning as well. They just got it under control.

IIRC, He was the original architect of how the District of Columbia was to be laid out and designer of some buildings, as well.

I noticed that as well. Barely a mention of either event.

No he's not.

Right this minute he is on the TV giving a speech to some crowd about how great the economy is and how almost everyone in the country is doing better, much better.

That's not "fiddling". That's doing something!
