Where to Find the Cheapest Gas in the Country
ABC News ^ | Jan 13, 2015 | GOOD MORNING AMERICA

The cheapest gas in the country costs less than a bottle of soda or cup of coffee.

A gas station in Tomball, Texas -- Stripes -- is selling a gallon of regular unleaded gas for $1.42 this morning. The price is 62 cents below the national average of $2.14 a gallon, which is among the country’s lowest levels for gas prices in five years.

Stations in 45 states are selling gas for under $2 a gallon, according to Gasbuddy.com.

Adjusted for inflation $1.81/gal would be $.28/gal in 1969. I am going to wear a paisley shirt today....

For a few days in January 2009, the price hit 99¢ a gallon in Tulsa, Oklahoma. How does that price adjust out?

Was $1.70 a week ago here in MI, now it is back to $1.99.

Must be because oil prices went down?

"I long for the days when you could top off a tank for $20."

Shoot, back in the late 50's, early 60's you could fill a 20 gallon tank for less than $7.00. Of course when you worked for less than a dollar an hour as a teen, the $7.00 was not easy to come by.

“I’ve never understood why someone would drive 20 miles out of their way to save $.10 per gallon on gas.”

By doing that you force the stations to lower their gas prices. Most stations make little off their gas, they make their money off the other stuff you buy inside the store.

The cheapest gas is not always what is best for your vehicle. I used to have problems with clogged fuel injectors and catalytic converters. Then my mechanic suggested it may be the cheap gas I am putting in my tank. I started going to Chevron exclusively. Haven’t had a problem with fuel injectors or catalytic converters since.

NW Arkansas

1.66 this morning at a Walmart
1.70 yesterday at the same store
1.98 just before Christmas at same store

Saw one thread yesterday that oil prices are still falling, so gasoline prices will probably go even lower.

Because it was dropping faster than the nation, then almost went back to the average?

Still falling faster.

I can remember 22-29 cent a gal gas in the late 60s. $5 bought a lot of gas back then.

I find that to be one of the greatest thrills to be found in America. We went to the US in June ‘14 and hired a car in Seattle. In five weeks I drove ~9500 miles with my wife and small grandson, and our gasoline cost was over US$1300.

I shall have to repeat again this summer .....

I also get 50 cent a gal discount on my gas using coupons the grocery store hands out, so I can fill up for about $1.40 a gal.

During most of 1972, NE Oklahoma was having a gas war. Prices ranged from $0.13 to $0.18.

When it did end, gas jumped to the $0.27 to $0.33 range.
