The electrifying $90.2 million wide opening of “American Sniper” – shattering records for the best January openings by tens of millions of dollars — stunned box office analysts and even distributor Warner Bros. Sunday.

“We’ve never seen anything like this,” Dan Fellman, head of domestic distribution at Warner Bros. told TheWrap.

The Clint Eastwood-directed Iraq War saga starring Bradley Cooper was on pace to top $100 million over the four-day Martin Luther King holiday weekend, uncharted territory for a movie at this time of year. It was an explosive and historic start for Village Roadshow’s R-rated “American Sniper,” which was adapted by Jason Hall from the late U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle’s autobiography.

I’m sure the movie if great, and also people are sick of the communists, racists and islamists who are undermining this great nation.

Your comments are spot on!

The reaction at the theater I went to was the same.

I'm so glad Speilberg dropped out of directing this and it was Eastwood. A big time leftie like Spielberg would never have done it justice.

If we only had men in leadership in this country with half as much of a sense of duty as Chris Kyle the country would be in great shape.

Eastwood simply made the best pro-America war movie ever made. Just an amazing movie who everyone should spend the money to see. I was encouraged to see how many young people were there.

Pray America is waking

Excerpt from Deadline...more hatred & jealousy from the Hollyweird commies.

While the competition did well this weekend against the titan American Sniper, some executives griped that the Eastwood film shaved off dollars off their initial projections.

“It felt like we opened against a Marvel movie,” said one studio executive about Sniper‘s presence.

“The people portrayed in American Sniper – these are real-life heroes to people in the same way that Marvel characters are heroes to fanboys. But it’s the Marvel concept for adults.”

They are “surprised” that a movie would do so great which tells the story of an American-loving, God-fearing, family-oriented, service-driven SEAL member?!?!

That tells you exactly, I mean EXACTLY, how out of touch with reality and the American people, Hollywood really finds itself!! SAD!!

I mean, their surprise should be an eye opener for not only the American public, but also Hollyweird!!!

It was stark.

I mean, we know the ending and see it coming and then....nothing.

I am in awe.

Won’t be watching it again though.

Once was all I could bear.

Speaking of young people...

My 20-year-old son and 10 or so of his buds went to see it at a midnight showing last night for one of 'ems birthday.

He didn't get back til dawn, so I'm pretty sure the celebration must have taken a turn after the movie.

He had to go to work today. Some lessons must be learned the hard way.

I will see it as soon as possible. Movies about the person are usually more interesting than ones about their actions.

I wonder if there has been a movie about Simo Häyhä?

He killed men who needed killing but, struggled to not kill others and some there was no choice.

Living with those choices and finding little support or understanding outside the warrior community. In reality how can we ever truly understand what going through that does to a person if we didn't live it. I know enough to know I will never fully appreciate their courage.

I don't want to say too much and ruin the film for others, but man it was so much more than just a war film. I kept thinking about what his father said to him as a boy about the "3" types of people in the world.

Movie correctly portrays how the muslim terrorists use women and children to hide behind as well as to carry out terrorist acts too. Movie shows Kyle having to kill a young boy who was given a grenade to throw at a Marine platoon. Mother was also shot when she picked up the grenade after her son was killed and tried to throw it at the marines. Kyle killed her too. These muslins are barbarians who have no respect for human life. War is hell and when women and children are brought into the fight it screws with the minds of US troops having to kill them.

Maybe you libs in Hollyweird ought to learn to respect God and country. In that order.

Amen. There were so many great points made in the movie by the main character and his father’s advice stood out. I also appreciated Kyle’s leadership. Seriously, no American can be disappointed with this movie’s message and lessons.
