What 'American Sniper' Got Right and Wrong, According to SEAL Who Helped Train Chris Kyle
ABC News - Good Morning America ^ | January 23, 2015 | Lee Ferran

When Brandon Webb, a former Navy SEAL sniper instructor who helped train Chris Kyle, first watched "American Sniper," he was disappointed in the movie about his former student and friend.

"I had high expectations and I have to say, when I first watched the movie, I felt really let down, for a number of reasons," Webb told ABC News Thursday. "It's hard to capture someone's life in two hours, and I get that, but I felt the film could have been, should have been, a military epic on the scale of a 'Saving Private Ryan.'"

But Webb said when he thought about it further and when the movie started a national conversation about the hardships of American troops in combat and at home, and their portrayal in Hollywood, he came to appreciate the film more.

I think Clint Eastwood is:

Creating Art
Honoring Service
Exploring the consequences of battle
Expiating his own vigilante devils

I don’t sense that Clint is trying to dishonor Mr. Kyle or the military.

I thought his complaints were sort of petty.

I don’t watch docu-dramas about real life warriors anymore.

Portraying anyone on film in an entertainment format is a hard if not impossible thing to accomplish.

From a boot recruit to a GO, the experiences men at arms face from day one till the end, is a whole ‘nother animal than a non-military or naval type can ever really appreciate.

Any one of a million in uniform has a story full of wonderful and horrible things, in perspective, the lives of heros ar eno different, only more visible.

I think the young private of Army or Marines or seaman or airman has as much a story as anyone else, self included.

To really know why and what warriors know, ask a person young or old why they DIDN’T enlist or commission in the armed services.....

God bless sour troops

Is Chris Webb the one who said they were using snipers to kill looters in Louisiana?

They trot out stuff like this for just about any film these days. It’s tiresome.

I was afraid of how ABC was going to hack up his interview. If the only negatives are those mentioned, both of which should not have been revealed, then the movie is great. Why would he even say those things and give the enemy hints on how to kill our boots? My son’s platoon was hit mainly by sniper in Afghanistan and he lost his best friend and his platoon leader, so simply saying that a few details were missed would have been enough.

I know, I thought the same thing! I personally felt that he was just trying to get attention on himself, which is pretty unusual for a SEAL

He seemed pretty fair. It's sort of like coming back from an aircraft carrier deployment as a pilot and watching Top Gun. Some of it was good, some funny and true, other parts dorky and unreal.

Because if my boss is a moron I can tell him to get stuffed and I only lose my job, not my freedom. It is no more complicated than that.

See, I told you so. Selfless service is at a premium ,as it has always been....

“Our Country, Not Ourselves”

Motto of 1st Battalion 5th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division....

That said, I do respect your choice, I only offer that so much has been levied on so few, and they volunteer for that burden.

Therein you have it.
