Tim Cook Defused Steve Jobs' Thermonuclear War, Then He Took Down Android
Forbes ^ | Saturday, January 31, 2015 | Evan Spence

I’ve already spoken about one of the plays made by Apple and Tim Cook to damage Android. This was the push to 64-bit computing in the iPhone 5S. As that smartphone was announced, the roadmaps for Android devices did not have 64-bit computing planned in the near future. Manufacturers and component suppliers were bounced into making bold claims that they would join Apple in the 64-bit world.

They had no choice but to do this. Android’s success was built around the promise of being faster, better, and stronger than its rival OS. If Apple was 64-bit, Android had to be 64-bit as well. Promises were made, plans were changed, and the rush to 64-bit comp

The impact of that push remain to this day. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 was the chipset expected to lead the charge, but production issues have forced manufacturers to delay products into Q3 2015, or choose alternative chips with the resulting compatibility problems of running third-party Android applications.

Apple weakened the chipsets in Android by forcing the manufacturers to follow them on the 64-bit roadmap. Resources, time, and developmental energies were directed away from competing directly with Apple and into something that has taken far longer than planned.

It was a paradigm shift with the iPhone ... and that’s why everyone else had to “go along” (at least “try to”) or be totally non-relevant.

Don’t worry, the autofill junk happens even worse on the ipod touch screen, where your screen and keyboard are really small. I use that relic from the days of four years ago, and it’s still pretty fun. But all around, plug the ipod touch into a TV using the media cables, and you are good to go with all sorts of fun stuff on the TV screen.

Eventually, when applications routinely use multi-GB memory, it makes a difference. But now, on phones, when 2 or 3 GB is the norm, I don’t think it does. That doesn’t mean that the move is a bad thing or unnecessary, just that the first to do it (iOS or Android) doesn’t get an immediate killer advantage over the other. They’ll both get there, eventually.

There speaks a person who uses a device that does not have the advantage and does not get to appreciate that advantage and is whistling past the graveyard because his device does NOT have that advantage. There WAS and IS a distinct advantage that Android makers are scrambling as fast as possible to grab. . . but are crippled in getting because their off-the-shelf, one-size-fits-all, FREE operating system was not made to fit a 64bit size yet. It is only just now getting there. . . but the APPS are not yet re-sized to fit.

So, Pearls, keep whistling.

It does have NetFlix ... can’t remember about Amazon, but I think so. I do have Amazon on my iPad, so even if it doesn’t show on Apple TV, you can use Apple TV to “beam” your iPad screen to your TV screen. Sometimes, it just “hands it off” to Apple TV and then Apple TV streams what was streamed on your iPad. It’s great!

They wish to shout down the discussion. . . just exactly the tactic of the liberals when ever a conservative attempts to speak. They start screaming "LALALALALALAL" spamming the threads like tactilogic and others of his ilk does with negativity so that interested parties LEAVE, sick of the bile. I've had members of the Apple Ping list ask to have their names removed because of such idiocy as TOXIC activities as "toxicalogic" pulls. He does it completely deliberately.

He has so much time on his hands he decides to use it be being a skunk at a picnic.

You don't allow any disagreement at all, and then try to make yourselves out to be the victim.

YOUR response to anything about Apple is NEGATIVE and to deny, deny, deny. No matter what it is. DENY DENY DENY. That is not discussion. . . nor is it constructive disagreement when your disagreement is repetitive thread after thread after thread. IT IS TIRESOME. As you intend it to be. CUT IT OUT! Get a life. You are outnumbered by the almost 700 Freepers who are on the FreeRepublic Apple-Mac-iPhone-iPad-iOS PING list who CHOOSE to enjoy these threads that YOU choose to litter with your bile. WHO APPOINTED YOU TO DO THAT? WHO ASKED YOU TO MAKE A MESS OUT OF THESE THREADS with every other post being a negative nasty comment from "toxicalogic" making the thread an unpleasant experience? Do you really like being disliked?

Yeah ... these Apple-haters are here to shout down everyone else, and make it tedious.

BUT, the Apple readers can get by anyway, if they realize that these Apple-haters usually do their poopy-deeds later on in the thread.

The Apple readers can get all they need to know at the very beginning, which is the article and news.

I would at least figure that there should be an app available for Amazon on the Apple TV. I mean, if iOS has it (Amazon Instant Video on my ipod, which also displays on my Viewsonic LCD or TV screen), I would be surprised if you didn’t have a channel for Amazon Instant Video for Apple TV. I have Roku, now, but I realized regretfully that I could have just added a mere 25 dollars, AppleTV would have been worth it, I guess there’s next time.

There should, but I just can’t remember just now. BUT ALSO, keep in mind that Amazon is selling their own little box for the TV ... SO ... they may want to restrict it just to their own device. I can’t say for sure, though.

Wireless Keyboard: $70 (Even more if you want the keypad with it)

Get real, Morpheus, who ever said anyone needs a Thunderbolt display or high-end display from a third party for a Mac Mini? Neither I nor Apple said that. The Mac Mini is designed to work with what you already have as an upgrade from your old P. Why do you need a wireless keyboard or wireless mouse? Use a standard USB version of both, but I'll grant you your wireless.:

Must you guys exaggerate to make your point?

And a Mac will work with any USB or Bluetooth keyboard or Mouse you can buy or you already have. Why are you selecting the most expensive options you can find? Obviously so you can push your "Macs are expensive" agenda.

If you watch the Apple Refurbished Mac store, you can often buy a Refurbished Mac Mini for as low as $399.00, and add an $90 20" monitor (Fry's had them on sale last week), Or this:

Monitor, Logitech Wireless Keyboard and Mouse for $111 on Amazon.com on 01/31/2015 17:11

Now you could have a complete, working OS X Mac for $510 plus a tax and a little bit of shipping. . . and most states, no tax.

using FR for paid Apple advertising?

That's the ticket! I'm sure the marketing people in Cupertino are all huddled together, plotting to penetrate the lucrative Free Republic market space.

The way I see it, and coming from the perspective of someone who has Roku, is that the way that they would jip you would likely be the other way around, chances are that the Amazon box won’t have an iTunes channel. I am going to take a wild guess at that based on the fact that the Roku I have does not support iTunes, there is a freeware converter that allows you to get your iTunes media and music on to format with your google library, but not including iTunes is how I would be willing to bet that they would give the sucker punch to their competition. I am pushing and campaigning with my wife to make our next box an Apple TV though, because it’s worth the extra 25 bucks.

Cripes, take it easy buddy, we get it, you love your Apple. You’ve made that quite clear. We heard you: You think androids are a piece of junk. So don’t buy one...

Don’t get so offended that there are some of us perfectly happy with the performance and price of our androids...

That’s the keyboard I use, years old. I picked up a late-2013 iMac from the Apple Refurbished store in August 2014 at a $350 savings, when my 2008 iMac died. The thing was identical to the brand-new iMacs.

The only complaint I have is that since the old, dead iMac was incapable of running, it was not possible to recover the Time Machine backup to build the new system.

We’ve gone over this time and time again, we don’t work for Apple, we just prefer iPhones and Macs.

Freep has threads about various non-political interests, from music to horses to garden, on and on and on, one of which is Apple.

It gets so tiresome having Apple-haters like yourself come on our Mac/iPhone threads and slur us, if you’re not interested, simply ignore the thread and go to a thread YOU’RE interested in...

Ed (Who doesn’t work for Apple, never has, never will!)
