I think this is a cultural thing that is possibly a reaction to the various pogroms and general disdain European society held for the Jewish people for many centuries, and it has become a major factor culturally among many Jews.
And some of them hated and still hate FDR because he did nothing to rescue Jews prior to the holocaust. I know that there are Jewish women who will fight like crazy for abortion “rights” because of the incidence of genetic diseases in some Jewish populations with the theory is that this option has to be there in case the baby tests positive. Also there were Jews who in spite of the evil that the USSR did to them after WWII figured that anything was better than the Nazis.
One overlooked factor is that Jewish children are pushed by their parents to go to college and get degreees and guess where the biggest liberal indoctrination mills at???
Usually at the “best” schools...
So their parents scrimp and save and work extra hard at their own businesses so when their kids get back from them they want to support the very policies that are antithetical to what helped pay for their own education.
If the colleges were not such indoctrination mills there would be fewer liberals in general population and far fewer in Jewish circles.
If you wanted to discuss this subject, couldn’t you have found a more recent article?
Just like Christian denominations, most “Jews” are only genetically Jewish, they are not faithful, or as many of my Jewish friends tell me; “We are not practicing Jews.” Too many “Christians” are not practicing Christians either. In plainer words, both non-practicing Jews, and Christians in name only, are not followers of God, thus they are secular humanists practicing moral relativism, so they vote opposite of Godly morality.
Not that the GOP is a much better representation of Godly morality, where they have taken the “Christian” vote for granted as they capitulate to most all of the progressive left’s wretched ideology.
Because Judaism is relatively vague on any afterlife, Jews tend to be somewhat attracted to the idea of an idealized, Earthly paradise. In past, there have been some Jewish “Messiahs”, but they are very different in character from the Christian idea of a Messiah.
It the Jewish idea, the person is less important that the Earthly paradise itself, and doesn’t even have to be Jewish. For example, Cyrus the Great, the king of Persia, although not a Hebrew, is referred to as “God’s mashiach” in the Bible, for his decree to rebuild the Jerusalem Temple.
In any event, if anyone comes up with an idealistic philosophy, such as socialism-communism, it will likely attract Jews like moths to a flame.
Even Hitler was so charismatic that some Jews showed interest in following him. In the US, there were huge hopes that JFK would take that role, and with Obama, they were falling all over themselves to enlist their support for him.
It doesn’t matter if whoever it is, is a burning antisemite, many Jews will continue to support them.
They’re mIseryalites.
They just keep screwing themselves over again and again and again and...
I'm not so sure Jews are so "alone" in maintaining the old New Deal coalition. Many other groups (Catholics, urban ethnics, union members, Blacks) are just as Democrat as ever.
The article defines liberalism primarily by economic positions. I would define it by moral/social positions. Decent people may disagree about economic policies, but not on the baseline standards of G-d for being civilized human beings.
OK is THIS of interest? :)

Why indeed?
As this thread continues, and with only freepers on it, it becomes increasingly clear.
I wish there was a photo of a nice young guy in a yarmulke saying “Not this Stuff Again!” Lol.
The main reason why jews are liberal today in 2015 is fear of being shamed by their friends and family. It is harder to come out at Passover as conservative than gay, in a non orthodox extended family. I’ve done it. The former, that is. You will never be as accepted as you were, you will never be seen the same. If you came out as gay, you’d be the star of the show. Everyone would want to be seen as being close to you. If you announce you’re voting for the Republican, it’s like announcing you just pooped on the floor.
I have heard that it is very similar in black american extended families as well.
