Predictably, the measles epidemic is morphing onto a political hot potato, much like global warming. Prospective Republican presidential candidates are being quizzed about vaccinations and whether or not they should be mandatory. The assumption is that the current measles outbreak is due to low measles vaccination rates, yet no questions or answers have been put forth addressing the far more likely cause of the outbreak -- illegal immigration.
Measles, like smallpox, has been eradicated. According to the CDC, “In 2000, the United States declared that measles was eliminated from this country.” This graph illustrates how measles cases dropped dramatically after the measles vaccine was introduced in the 1960s.
Then why are we seeing this sudden surge in measles cases? Lack of vaccinations in the U.S. doesn’t cause the disease, but instead facilitates its spread. If a disease has been eradicated, vaccination is no longer necessary. The CDC reminds us, “Routine smallpox vaccination among the American public stopped in 1972 after the disease was eradicated in the United States.” Arguments about measles vaccinations are a red herring if measles has been truly eradicated.
Then why the surge in cases? The only explanation is that new cases are being introduced into the United States. Since 2001, there have typically been less than 100 measles cases per year in the U.S. In 2014, this number jumped to over 600 cases, with 102 cases alone in January of 2015. The CDC connects the dots. “Measles is still common in many parts of the world including some countries in Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and Africa.” Furthermore, “Travelers with measles continue to bring the disease into the U.S.” Replace “travelers” with “immigrants.”

Forget impeachment.
Arrest for treason.
Try.
Convict.
Administer proper punishment.
As far as I’m concerned, they can start requiring all travelers to present proof of vaccinations before entering the US. Oh, wait, won’t do a bit of good with the South border wide open and Obama standing on our side waving the weary illegal immigrants to “come on in”. He doesn’t give a rat’s rear about our health here, just like he stupidly continues to say that ISIS is “no threat” to the US, an open challenge to them to prove him wrong.
I’m for vaccinating ALL people, including mooslems. No exemptions!
Let’s start calling them Measles Trains.
Sickness showed up with Obama’s Illegals
How did those Americans catch it?
Two comments:
Both my sons were vaccinated but both caught measles when we lived in the Netherlands during the 70’s. The Dutch doctor who treated our kids said that vaccinations were not a guarantee against the disease. If you read the initial reporting of the outbreak at Disney, there were several vaccinated children who also got measles.
CDC says Measles Cases at Disney Came from Outside US

Here is an interesting website about the international cases of measles:

It just seems to me that this situation is being politicized in order to keep the Republicans on the defensive.
When I was a kid if someone in the neighborhood came down with measles, the mothers would round up all their kids and march them over to be exposed, I never heard of anyone dying from that.
Those that are alive and remain will be caught up in the air........
>> Well, except for Enoch and Elijah.

Don’t tell the prohibitionists, they’re against anyone being high.
(Yay for bad wordplay.)
Look who's selling snake oil now.
I'm afraid you'll have a hard time selling that to those of us who are paying attention to waves of 'dreamers' entering the country lately.
Where do you live?
Why? D’wanna fight?
the past largest US measles outbreak being caused by a cluster of unvax Amish missionaries returned from the Philippines
Yes, blame the AMISH!
How did the Amish get to the Philippines? That’s a very long arduous boat ride. (Don’t the Amish shun the use of modernity, like airplanes, steam ships, etc.)?
Seriously curious how, or why even, the Amish would go on a mission trip to the PI...
If there is anything I wish I could have had, it would have been getting sick with measles as opposed to having to take booster shots repeatedly that do not one hundred percent guarantee protection from getting sick.
Because, unless you are someone who grows up with either zero exposure to measles (vaccine or the disease) and then suddenly get measles as an adult as a first exposure, then it can cause severe complications, fertility, and death. Just because kids get sick with measles does not mean that they weren’t vaccinated; kids with vaccines get sick with measles. Some teen or adult going sterile, getting severe brain damage, or dying of measles would prove that they somehow grew up with zero exposure to it (either never got sick and/or vaccinated)
The only other factor that would make measles dangerous is if your immune system is compromised, or if you are severely malnourished.
Dude, totally out of context from a supposedly educated source. People in Hawaii had zero exposure to the virus. For someone who has gotten sick with it as a child, that counts as both an exposure and an immunity to the virus. it also doesn’t address the fact that the majority of measles cases noawadays are kids who are vaccinated, so like usually slimes, the government dodges addressing their own claim that measles is 100 percent protected against by the vaccines.
I remember when vegans were getting e-Coli from lettuce and spinach grown on Mexican farms.
Have people forgotten why we COOK FOOD at a high temperature?
Because I figure you must be from somewhere without the 30 year influx of illegals.
Or you haven’t noticed what’s been going on for thirty years.
Are you kidding. Where I live its pretty hard not to notice whats been going on.
