Too coarse. There are great variances within each state.
Before the “Federal Reserve” none of this could have happened.
thats a fact...the difference between the coastal towns and cities...in general and Inland California are tremendous...economically and socially
$100.00 = $101.94 in Arizona.
The power of the $ gets offset by salaries. See as an example, the federal grade/salary scales. http://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/salaries-wages/2015/general-schedule/
A GS9, roughly middle of the chart, starting pay in AL is $48,191; In the Philadelphia area it’s $51,638 and in NY/NJ/CT it’s $54,576. Large companies would have similar adjustments based on COL in the various geographic areas.
So, more often than not, the choice on where to live comes down to quality of life questions.
“Try to pass a Benjamin at the grocery store. They act like its suspicious behavior. Twisting and contorting the bill up in the air looking to see if its fake. Like $100 is big money anymore.”
They do that because the Secret Service has found out that the North Koreans are manufacturing 100 dollar bills to destroy our economy.
It also follows that the cost of homes (and often dry goods) follows suit.
What if we shop via the Internet?
Remember the sound of silver? It was REAL and substantial, not the annoying little “tink” of the fake cupro-nickel stuff. Today’s coin is so debased I don’t keep any in my pockets.
20 = 1 roll. You show 2 rolls (40ct)
In Hawaii there are major differences between the islands & even on the same island in some instances.
Almost everything costs relative to the area. The house that’d be (say) $150K in Ohio might be $210K in CT.
I live in a multi-jurisdictional area (Northern VA, which together with DC and parts of MD comprise the “DC Metro” area). Moving from VA to DC would instantly halve my phone and electric bill. Cost of a housing property would be a bit higher. Food is also higher in DC than NOVA or suburban MD. The real estate has to do with how small geographically DC really is.
The poster compared what 20 dollars used to be worth. 40 half dollars is 20.
BAY AREA REAL ESTATE prices are monumetally higher than fifty miles inland...
In November of 1963, right after they first came out, I bought a 1964 Chevelle Malibu SS off the showroom floor. Paid sticker price, which was $3290. You’d pay ten times that for a new Malibu today.
Yup. I live in north central Florida where the cost of living is no where near Miami.
The logic is that McDonald's restaurants serve a homogenous product everywhere. Whether you buy a Big Mac in Moscow or Duluth it's the same product, packaged the same, tastes the same and causes about the same amount of pulmonary damage...
Here’s what you do:
Bring a black magic marker with you to the store. When they give you change, especially 10 dollar bills and larger, do the same; hold it up to the light, check the water mark, and then make a mark on it with the marker. Tell them it’s just in case they pass you a counterfeit bill.
Smile at their surprise.
I used to get telemarketing calls form my telecom carrier, Century Link. Every time they call they tell me that “The call is being recorded for training purposes.” I tell them, “Wow! What a coincidence, as I am recording this call, too!” They say, “We can’t talk to you if you record us.” Then I say, “Well bye then.” and hang up.
