If you are using that $100 to buy fuel or food... you are probably better off buying them in NJ... More so than that chart shows. I moved to NY PA four years ago and was told that the "cost of living" here is low... which the apartment I had was half the cost of what it would have been in NJ and property taxes for the 70 acre farm I now have are 1/10 of my parents' property tax on 1 acre in Hunterdon County... but food and fuel here are expensive by my standards. I used to get butter on sale for less than $1.50/lb and chicken thighs on sale for 79¢/lb, but out here butter "on sale" is $2.50/lb and chicken thighs are "on sale" at $1.29/lb.
I really miss Shoprite.

Years ago, I got $400 from an ATM.
I could hear the thing churning for quite a while which worried me, but it eventually spit out a huge wad of money...
Eighty $5 bills!
I doubt they stock them with fives any more.

We used to play a lot of poker at the railroad I used to work at. We would play mostly quarter/half games and every now and then when splashing the pot on the impromptu table we made by putting a piece of laminated safety glass on top of the shop office garbage can, you would hear a silver quarter hit the table. Very distinctive.

Close friend at work is a Brit. The other day he showed me an odd Franklin dime in his change and I immediately recognized it as silver. Sure enough, it was dated 1964.
He was really surprised when I showed him it was worth 90 cents in fair condition! He was about to drop it in the vending machine for a snack.
That’s the first time I’ve seen silver in change in decades.

I got one in change at the coffee shop in town last year (a quarter), when I started jingling the change I heard it right away, pulled it out and was dropping in on the counter explaining to the clueless little girl at the register that it was silver.

Indeed, I’m originally from the golden state, a farm town, much cheaper than the big cities on the coast..

That doesn’t take into consideration, the current “Two Big Macs for $4.44” special.
That would put the US down the list, between Malaysia and Hong Kong.
But not as cheap as the Maharaja Mac. (whatever that is?)

I remember in the seventies spending $20 a week on groceries for myself and husband and we ate pretty good, of course many things were made from scratch.

Why a nationwide minimum hourly rate is stupid. Well, its one reason. The main reason, AFAIAC, is that any minimum wage knocks the bottom rung off the ladder of opportunity - and simultaneously makes it harder for people to hire labor to get simple things done.
