Maduro did not say whether the move amounted to an expropriation, but he said the government's PDVAL food distribution agency would take over "all service of this chain that was waging war against the population."

He did not name the company, but it is widely assumed that he was referring to Dia a Dia. Maduro, who spoke on state television, did not say if the measure would be permanent.

The gov't is against the peeps.

Venezuela is now a Socialist Paradise where the peeps wait for the bread rather than the other way around.

After running out of other people’s money, they are now working on other people’s property.

Collectivism consumes but does not produce.

It works, until it’s gone.

Clean out the storerooms and warehouses. That ought to buy them another couple of weeks of Socialist Prosperity. Next they’ll need to liberate food from the pantries of the ‘hoarders’ (except for the party elite). That will buy another few days. Then seize the seed stock from the farmers before spring planting. Finally, move the excess population into labor camps, and let them forage for bark, rats, and insects.

If you are trying to build a North Korean style paradise, it takes some work.

Poland under Communism always had empty shelves. Government folks are totally incapable of running anything more than a cookie stand, and that may prove beyond them too.

It was just a matter of “when”.

The end result of this is that those in power will have an easier time grabbing whatever goods are left and the average Venezuelan will be worse off.

After the Dia a Dia stores are emptied out into the trucks of Maduro’s corrupt cronies and other government scum, they’ll never be restocked again. That’s pretty much been the pattern for every business Maduro has taken over.

Apparently communists prefer “no food at all” to “food shortages”.

This is actually funny. Maduro probably thinks that groceries are manufactured in the back of the stores.

Seriously, businesses operating in countries with such idiots in charge should have a software self-destruct button just in case they are taken over. It might even be automatic unless deactivated periodically. Then, when everything stops working, management should be out of the country.

If they have inventory waiting to be sold, consider it a write off and open the doors to the mob to loot as to their heart’s content, so it will all be gone by the time the government arrives to confiscate it.

Don’t laugh too hard.
Maduro is probably smarter than the man in our own White House.

At the very least, he DID once have a real job.
