Brian Williams and the Tyranny of Big Brother Anchormen

He lied? Yes he lied. Wait a minute. Maybe Brian Williams simply embellished. Guys do that all the time. We all want to be heroes.

We enhance the truth particularly as we behaved in war.

That’s where Brian Williams met his disgrace. “That’s the way it is,” Walter Cronkite used to say. Well, no. Not quite, these days.

There too, in Israel, some are catching on to the deceptions from “news you can trust.” Leading journalist Kalman Liebeskind on Arutz Sheva upbraids (leftist) Big Media for their volley of lies and half-truths especially as they go gunning for Benjamin Netanyahu through torrents of abuse. […]

The Voice of dubious Authority speaks and so collectively we bow and declare, Long Live Big Brother. Let’s hear nothing about Radical Islam, but let’s hear it again about Global Warming.

Bernard Goldberg spent some 20 honorable years at CBS. He got fed up with the bias, quit and wrote a book named “BIAS.” Sharyl Attkisson also spent some 20 years at CBS. Then she too got fed up. Her stories, particularly those that revealed Obama in a bad light, kept getting stonewalled. So she quit and wrote a book called “Stonewalled.” …

One might argue that ever since Harry Reasoner, Frank Reynolds, and Howard K. Smith ‘departed...there hasn’t been objective news anchors on any nightly news....hence the reason to watch Bret Baier, and O’Reilly?

Deception presented as news is lethal to a republic. It makes media partners to Obama’s High Crimes.

“Tell a lie enough times and people will start to believe it.” This quote is attributed to both Goebels, Hitler’s minister of propaganda, and Hitler himself. However, we all know it is the truth and the major American media are masters at the practice of it. They have rotted from the inside and are the main reason America is also rotting from the inside. It is going to take some very courageous people to stand up and tell us what has gone on in those circles as they have married themselves to what is quickly becoming a tyrannical government.

I would argue that even those news anchors you mentioned weren’t honest or objective. They were on the air during a time when there was no alternate ways to get the news and determine if they were being biased or not. They were free to spout one side of the news withouth objection.

Remember, even the vaunted Walter Cronkite lied about Vietnam being unwinnable after Tet.

You know this whole thing with Brian Williams really irks me on several levels. As a journalist it gives all of us a black eye. I’ve been in the civilian and/or military part of being a reporter/journalist most of my adult life and never have I felt the need to embellish or create from whole cloth anything I’ve seen, done or reported on. But then I’ve never felt the need to make myself part of the event. Like Rush said once…reporters report the news journalists put themselves in the middle of it. These days we have too many of the latter and not enough of the former.

Unlike Mr. Williams I actually have a certificate showing I met the qualifications and requirements to perform the job of a radio and tv broadcaster, perhaps if he’d stayed in college and not dropped out to go work for Jimmy Carter he would have taken the course on Ethics in Journalism and learned that integrity is everything. Whether I’m reporting a story or doing my job as an NCO leading and training soldiers, integrity is everything. You lose that and nothing else matters.

The defense of what he’s done by the likes of Bill Moyers, Geraldo and Joe Klein is equally disgusting. Goes to show they’ve learned nothing after Dan Rather and “fake but accurate”.

"Get the point? To sell a lie successfully, it must be based on some truth. "

There was a time when Williams would have gotten away with this because if someone wanted to challenge the story, there would have been no effective means to do so. Letters to newspaper editors or executives in the media would have been ignored. But times, and mass communication, have teamed up to befoul the claims of people like Williams and Hillary.

Williams was in Iraq, so he thought he would add some details to make himself look heroic. At the time, personnel might have been silent because they knew the would have been retaliated against. Now however, that they have retired, they can speak out without fear of repercussions. And due to the mass communications society has, they could expose him without having to go through society's prior filtering system.

Similarly with Katrina, Williams though he would add some details. Unfortunately for him, there were people there who remembered the circumstances, and again, because of the mass communications of the internet, his story unraveled quickly once people began posting about it, and talk radio and FOX began discussing it.

Pretty much anymore, anytime any more liberals claim to have done something heroic, their stories needs to be checked in depth because they just might be lying.

I thought it was interesting that Cronkite’s last name sounds almost exactly like the German word for “sickness”.

I wouldn’t call it an accident that so many Marxists got into US media during and after WWII, and beforehand as well.

LOL! That’s funny I never realied that.

“I wouldn’t call it an accident that so many Marxists got into US media during and after WWII, and beforehand as well.”

Joe McCarthy gets vindicated on a daily basis.

Umm, not so much O’Reilly. He tends to stray off the reservation from time to time. And, I suspect if he thought he could get away with it (not hurt his ratings) we would see O’Reilly permanently position himself on his show where his beliefs are, about center/left.

January 1898: Frederic Remington; “Everything quiet. There is no trouble here. There will be no war. Wish to return.”

25 January 1898: William Randolph Hearst; “Please remain. You furnish the pictures and I’ll furnish the war.”

Arguably Hearst but threw a log on the fire of sentiments against Spain; he knew his audience. It appears no argument that Williams is but a straight-up liar of the Dan Rather class. Funny, if not for JFK, Rather would have remained a general assignment reporter in Texas..perhaps hanging onto lamp poles during hurricanes. Another Texan owing their career to JFK is Bob Schieffer. “What hath LBJ wrought?”

…and “that’s what it is”

Ethics??? Whut dem??? Ethics has been long dead pretty much everywhere, but especially in colleges and universities...subsumed by leftist "political correctness". Not just in journalism, but in ALL fields that purport to be "professional".....science, business, law, and all the rest.

Todays ethics are "situational" (i.e. if it (insert any ethically sensitive behavior here) supports the current leftist memes, it is "ethical"....if not, it isn't.

RE: our U.S. MSM employees.. that's the way it is.

". . . the [American] media played a major role in the final downfall of South Vietnam . . . North Vietnam General Vo Nguyen Giap . . . in a French TV broadcast [said that the] 'most important guerrilla during the Vietnam War was the American press.'" Here

I remember Walter "North Viet Nam Communists' Most Trusted Man in America" Cronkite.

OK.. so the MSM employees in general are working against Israel.. but do they have to act as ISIS's most valuable jihadists?

The employees of the MSM were urged (ordered?) to never, never mention terror with Muslims -- if they absolutely had to include the word terror with Muslim they must also list domestic terrorists such as anti-abortion people.

Society of Professional Journalists Advocates Whitewashing Islam The link is to a 2008 article but I remember that the Society of Professional "Journalists" issued these instructions in Oct of 2001.

Isn’t it funny, the guy who scored the winning touchdown never misremembers himself sitting on the bench when the touchdown was scored.
