Hawaiian Independence Movement Attracts Chinese Interest

HONOLULU—China has suggested arming Hawaii’s independence activists in retaliation for U.S. arms sales to Taiwan and recently threatened to challenge American sovereignty by making legal claims to the Pacific islands as its territory.

Chinese threats to back several groups of Hawaiian independence activists who want to restore the islands’ constitutional monarchy, ousted in a U.S.-backed coup over a century ago, has raised concerns that military facilities on the strategic central Pacific archipelago are threatened at a time when the Obama administration is engaged in a major shift toward Asia as part of its military and diplomatic rebalance.

Michael Pillsbury, a Pentagon consultant and author of the recent book 100 Year Marathon, said Chinese military hawks, known as “ying pai,” told him they are ready to provide arms to Hawaiian independence activists in retaliation for U.S. arms sales to Taiwan.

“Beijing’s extraordinary sensitivity to American arms sales to Taiwan—even one bullet or a spare tire for a jeep—often provokes angry words,” said Pillsbury who has held talks with 35 Chinese generals in recent years...

China threatening to start a nice little civil war in Hawaii.

I could imagine them pulling crap like this with Reagan in the White House.

Oh wait a minute. No I couldn’t.

That would be a Japanese pronunciation. “Lollapalooza” doesn’t work on Mandarin speakers.

When the Red Chinese talk of “independence”, they are bigger liars than the DC administration.

Sheesh! You can’t make this stuff up. Obama is weak unless it involves anyone to the right of himself. It doesn’t help that we have a congress who is mostly motivated by donors with the big bucks. The average tax paying citizen is screwed. Heck, one of them even wants to pile Greece on our already burdened backs.

Nor could they. Pity that Reagan didn’t push to have them booted off the UNSC and Taiwan put back on.

Besides, look at what respect Red China has for the independence of Hong Kong and Taiwan.

. . . they are ready to provide arms to Hawaiian independence activists in retaliation for U.S. arms sales to Taiwan.

Native Hawaiians are roughly 10% of the state's population or 140,000 people. Of those, let's say a total of one-third or 47,000 of them are even remotely sympathetic to independence given what it would cost in federal aid and such.

Compare that to Taiwan, where Han Chinese (those who escaped from the mainland) are 98% of the population or 22.9 million of whom, lets say half, are stridently anti-Communist. That is 47K potential recruits against 11.5 million. Or a ratio of roughly 244 to 1.

They'll want union with Kenya, just to make things seem like they were nice and legal.

If Hawaii left the Union, that would be two less Democratic Senators.

And that could impact all our legislation to come, and the rest of US culture.

Ergo, let them join China! That way they can have full socialism and an authoritarian government.

Hawaii is going nowhere.

Without federal dollars, the whole thing just implodes like a bad soufflé.

Quebec had a similar epiphany. Seems they don’t want to be a part of Canada, but they do like all the loonies that flow from the oil sands of Alberta.

Funny how that works.

Hawaii is the woman that looked at matrimony as a career path and not a partnership. After criticizing her husband for years, he left. She was dismayed to find out that the debit card in her purse wasn’t magical after all.

That too was my initial thought but the problem with military bases of two super-powers with opposing national interests on a few little islands would be as foolhardy as having Christians, Jews and Muslims living together in harmony.

Next Civil War that will concern us ain't Hawaii.

It's Cuba. The CHICOM are already invested there and waiting for Fidel and Raúl to take their dirt nap. CHICOM also big in Venezuela.

Someone really ought to tell Reggie Love, so the word will get back to Barry.
