The Mayor of London, who was born in New York, has in the past been forced to pay US tax because of his American citizenship.

And we come to the real reason.

"Mr Johnson had faced a demand from the US authorities to pay capital gains tax on profits from the sale of his house in north London."

Wow... The mind boggles at the prospect.

Something is just not right about that.

relinquishing his citizenship was a "laborious business, they don't make it easy for you".

It should be made as easy as turning around three times and saying "I renounce my citizenship" each time you turn.

And you can never get it back.

they don’t make it easy for him to get rid of his citizenship because they expect him to pay taxes on his income... no matter where in the world he lives (the US is the only country that does this)

When a nation is over $18 TRILLION in debt and has promised Free Stuff to millions of legal and illegal leeches within its borders in exchange for votes, it has to squeeze the last drops out of its already milked taxpayers wherever they may live.

There are a surprising amount of people on this thread that don’t appear to know who Boris Johnson is. If you take an interest in conservative politics worldwide, it is absolutely impossible not to have encountered him.

He is the Mayor of one of the greatest cities on Earth.

He presided over the immensely successful Olympic Games in London in 2012.

Those interested in the classical world may have enjoyed his various books, including ‘The Dream of Rome.’

Churchillians amongst us (surely more than a few on this site) will know him as the author (authorised by the Churchill Estate) of the recent best-seller, ‘The Churchill Factor.’

He is being tipped to be a major candidate to be the next leader of the Conservative Party, and possibly, quite possibly, a future Prime Minister of the UK.

He is seen as a clown by many, but he is certainly, most certainly, not a nobody.

Well American citizenship is so cheap; just walk in; claim it and get nicely paid for doing so; is there any other country anywhere in world that would do such a thing.

American citizenship is not even on sale; it is free for the TAKING, a pile of outhouse crap will cost you more.

Think of all the blood and treasure over 200 years that is just being pissed on; don’t know about anyone else but I’m raging mad; not long ago (certainly in my lifetime) American Citizenship was the greatest treasure one could possess on the entire earth.

Boris Johnson is a Leftist loon, bordering on communist. If he wants to renounce his citizenship, so be it. No big loss.
