Police deploy to save autistic boy's birthday
CBS NEWS ^

All it took was a Facebook post, the kindness of strangers and eventually a helicopter to save the day for a 6-year-old Florida boy.

For Glenn Buratti's birthday, his mother Ashlee Buratti said she invited his entire class over for a party. When none of the 16 kids showed up, her son was devastated. "To see the look on his face killed me inside," Buratti told CBS News Orlando affiliate WKMG. Her son, who is autistic, was so saddened by the absence of guests, she said, that he refused to smile.

"I know this might be something silly to rant about, but my heart is breaking for my son," she wrote in a post on Facebook. "He keeps asking 'when will my friends get here?'"

The post sparked an immediate response from her community. Buratti said complete strangers responded, and shortly after her posting, kids and their parents began bringing gifts.

Then the police got involved. The county sheriff's office near her house in St. Cloud, Florida, orchestrated their own gift: A flyover from the the sheriff's helicopter.

"Glenn just smiled the whole time and waved," Buratti said. "It was amazing."

Deputies bought Glenn more presents, and, the next week, sheriff's cars, police dogs and fire trucks paid him a visit at the same time.

"We got to the stop sign by our house and Glenn was like: 'The fire truck's at our house!'" Buratti recalled. "I said, 'It's okay, They're there to tell you happy birthday.'"

The fact that a simple online "rant" could save her son's birthday restored Buratti's faith in the human spirit.

"The amazingness of everybody coming together for somebody they didn't even know, a kid that didn't have anybody come to his birthday party, it warmed my heart."

Most likely a bunch of liberal bottom feeders who can not feel remorse about anything they do.

They should.
My kids were fortunate to be very popular in school but I always told them to NEVER be mean to Anyone. They took my advice and are now passing it along to their children. My grandson has a boy in his class with special needs and was posting on Facebook how lonely he was after school. My grandson jumped right in and asks him over on a regular basis and my daughter say this kid’s face just lights up when he arrives.

I have 2 grandsons who are on the autism spectrum. This just breaks my heart, but I am happy for those who responded.

This child needs a new class.

I have a daughter on the autistic spectrum. One year she had about six kids over for a birthday sleepover (12th birthday or so). At about 10:00pm, all of the kids except for one decided to leave and sleep over at another one of the kid's houses. Not like it was boring here, as we had a projector hooked up, plenty of snacks, music, etc.

The kids were all downstairs, my wife and I were watching TV upstairs, and suddenly out the door they all went.

So heartbreaking. My daughter just cried her eyes out for a hour or so up in her room. I felt sorry for the poor kid who stuck with her. The kid said herself that it was a crappy thing to do and that she would never do that to someone.

I think this has affected her to this day (She's turning 18). Never had any more than one or two girlfriends since.....lots of boyfriends though, lol.

His class is a piece of shit. At my kids’ elementary, we had down’s kids that were treated like kings and queens. No one would have dreamed of being so cruel. F all of them and their parents.
