FCC Chair Refuses to Testify before Congress ahead of Net Neutrality Vote
The National Review ^ | 02/25/15 | Andrew Johnson

Two prominent House committee chairs are “deeply disappointed” in Federal Communications Commission chairman Tom Wheeler for refusing to testify before Congress as “the future of the Internet is at stake.” Wheeler’s refusal to go before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday comes on the eve of the FCC’s vote on new Internet regulations pertaining to net neutrality. The committee’s chairman, Representative Jason Chaffetz (R., Utah), and Energy and Commerce Committee chairman Fred Upton (R., Mich.) criticized Wheeler and the administration for lacking transparency on the issue. “So long as the chairman continues to insist on secrecy, we will continue calling for more transparency and accountability at the commission,” Chaffetz and Upton said in a statement. “Chairman Wheeler and the FCC are not above Congress.” The vote on the new Internet regulations is scheduled for Thursday. The FCC’s two Republican commissioners have asked Wheeler to delay the vote to allow more time for review. The changes would allow the commission to regulate the Internet like a public utility, setting new standards that require the provision of equal access to all online content.

This has been an ominous month in the history of our government. Team Zero is no longer even attempting to mask their dictatorial agenda. They’ve ‘come out of the closet’ so to speak. Now I REALLY have my doubts Barry will ever leave office.

The refusal of the Bureaucrats to submit to Congressional oversight makes it appear to me that they think they have control of our government and country in the bag. The frequency of such behavior has increased. There MUST be a challenge to it. If there is not an aggressive response to this by Congress and/or the courts, we have capitulated to communist domination. This CANNOT stand.

I have a question for the IT experts on FR.

If the fascists in Obama's government succeed in taking over the internet, is it possible for the People to build their own, private, internet, so we don't have to use the one taken over by the government?

Another “what difference does it make” all the dems will vote for it and just enough Rino’s for it to pass; not only giving the dems what they want; but also giving the dems claim to a bipartisan vote.

A one party system at its best; rather a democratic communist system at its best.

We own it folks; “We The People” are responsible for the gov’t we live under; we failed to protect, defend and preserve our once Constitutional Free Republic.

"If these guy had even some spine they would just defund the entire FCC operation for next year in response."

Even if the GOPe had the correct anatomy, I am not so sure that Congress controls the funding of the FCC. Wiki shows them as totally funded by regulatory fees, and even lists them as an independent agency. Just not sure what control Congress has except maybe approval of appointees.

As bad as this is there is one good thing, it is finally hitting something that leftist nerds care about, their precious Internet. They may not care about taxes since they don’t pay any, they may not care about those horrible guns, but when their internet is affected boy watch out.

Congress has brought this on themselves. Once a person is held in contempt THROW THEM IN JAIL. If there is no consequence expect others to act contemptuously, which is exactly what we have here.

Did it happen to occur to anyone here that the whole net neutrality scam is just another smash and tax scheme? If ISP and content providers fall under telcomm utility rules, the same taxes you pay on your phone bill will also apply to your internet usage, not to mention that the ISP’s will now be able to bill you for usage just like the phone company does. Imagine that e ery website you visit, every email you send, and every IP address to connect to will be billed the same as making a phone call, or mailing a letter at the post office.

Like I said, this has nothing to do with “neutraility” or “fairness”, and everything to do with the government and their cronies lining their pockets, along with controlling the flow of information to suit their interests.
