Obama "Very Interested" In Raising Taxes Through Executive Action

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest confirmed Monday that President Obama is "very interested" in the idea of raising taxes through unitlateral executive action.

"The president certainly has not indicated any reticence in using his executive authority to try and advance an agenda that benefits middle class Americans," Earnest said in response to a question about Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) calling on Obama to raise more than $100 billion in taxes through IRS executive action.

"Now I don't want to leave you with the impression that there is some imminent announcement, there is not, at least that I know of," Earnest continued. "But the president has asked his team to examine the array of executive authorities that are available to him to try to make progress on his goals. So I am not in a position to talk in any detail at this point, but the president is very interested in this avenue generally," Earnest finished.

Sanders sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew Friday identifying a number of executive actions he believes the IRS could take, without any input from Congress, that would close loopholes currently used by corporations. In the past, IRS lawyers have been hesitant to use executive actions to raise significant amounts of revenue, but that same calculation has change in other federal agencies since Obama became president.

Obama's preferred option would be for Congress to pass a corporate tax hike that would fund liberal infrastructure projects like mass transit. But if Congress fails to do as Obama wishes, just as Congress has failed to pass the immigration reforms that Obama prefers, Obama could take actions unilaterally instead. This past November, for example, Obama gave work permits, Social Security Numbers, and drivers licenses to approximately 4 million illegal immigrants.

Those immigration actions, according to the Congressional Budget Office, will raise federal deficits by $8.8 billion over the next ten years .

He is throwing the middle finger to Congress. This is so utterly brazen, it is nothing less than throwing down the gauntlet.

Never fear Mr. Sotero, there are no balls on the other side of the aisle.

” .... to raise more than $100 billion in taxes through IRS executive action.”

That is not a dent in $18 trillion. Why would you even go there for that?

There aren’t enough cuss words in the English language to describe this weasel of a president and the little pukes like Earnest who surround him.

Isn’t this exactly why the colonists revolted against Good Old King George?

Bullcrap! Obama's preferred option is always for Congress not to do things so he can claim he has no choice but to act because they won't.

Exactly, and in his tiresome pathetic words, “because it’s the right thing to do.”

Things will no longer be taxes. They will be “administrative fees.” Such as your Obamacare fee surcharge for “administrative costs.” Or your IRS tax return processing fee of 20%. Or the hefty fees they will charge the airlines for the privilege of having DHS/TSA services, which will then be passed on to you through increased ticket prices.

Americans are already being screwed by dozens of hidden taxes in the form of fees. This will just make it more blatant.

Wait... I thought this was just a bit of “demonstrating absurdity through absurdity”.

He’s actually thinking about trying this?

That is basic liberal doctrine.
The “right people”, the moral and intellectual superior elites, should have the power to do what they think is right, regardless of rules or laws.

As a libinlaw recently admitted, “I don’t care how they did it - it was the right thing to do.”

LOL, my post wasn't a reminder to Obama - after all, he's the constitutional professor. The speaker of the house is the one that needs to be reminded.

The Speaker would wet himself if the press looked at him askance.

” know this is silly to even discuss at this stage, but isn’t it abundantly clear in the Constitution that congress sets the tax rates? Of all these issues, it doesn’t get any more cut and dried than this topic.”

Well, except in the case of immigration and naturalization!

we should be so lucky. if he pulls this crap, we could nominate leonard nimoy’s corpse, and the corpse would win in a landslide.

Your comment assumes that a majority of voters a) pay taxes and b) would put their personal pain over democrat groupthink. I don't believe those things are true anymore.

I bet his plans involve 401(k)s and confiscating more of them through taxes.

Liberal doctrine is right on, feelings and emotion will top the law anytime a liberal wants something.
