David Petraeus, the well-known retired U.S. Army general and CIA director, has nearly reached a plea deal with the Department of Justice, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

After leading two wars, Petraeus was accused of sharing classified information with biographer and mistress, Paula Broadwell.

Story Continued Below

The deal would save Petraeus from the scrutiny of a public trial where details of his personal life would be made public.

Details of the deal have not yet been made public.

“Mr. Petraeus will plead guilty to one count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison. Mr. Petraeus has signed the agreement, said Marc Raimondi, a Justice Department spokesman.”

Patreas was a threat and his dalliance removed him as a political threat. FWIW I thought Chris Kyle was becoming a political threat too with his open negative statements about Holder and Obama.

Boy they sure eliminated this man as a political threat. The clown helped them by being unable to stay away from the dolly. Now we have lost through vice a potential national leader.

So. Did he get the Administration that Sandy “down my pants” Berger got when he stole Top Secret Documents (hand annotated by William Jefferson Clinton himself) from the National Archives?

As I recall, he left those TOP SECRET documents mistakenly in a file cabinet or something by the trash bins nearby or something horseshit like that. He was given a suspension of his clearance for a couple three years or something like that. His ‘service’ to Clinton, likely kept Slick out of jail.

This was a hit to keep him from spilling the beans about Benghazi.

Seems to me if he had beans to spill, the charges would have been dropped.

I thought that by the time you pin on that fourth star, you know which head should be doing your thinking.

IIRC, even after the frat scandal broke, his doxy got promoted to Lt Col USAR. Strange, since receiving classified information without a need to know can carry charges of its own.

I do believe they set him up.

It was never verified that the documents on her computer came from Petreaus.

Rather than put his family through hell, he passed.
