Obama pressing for federal control of local police

Call it Common Core for police. But the White House, in cahoots with the Department of Justice, has set in motion a plan that will expand federal control of community police forces, via standards handed from above called the “Task Force on 21st Century Policing.”

The plan was released Monday, Infowars reported. And its gist? Like Common Core, the education plan criticized by opponents as little more than a federal mandate that’s tied to funding, the just-released police plan would force local law enforcement agencies to follow federally set standards in return for receiving federal tax dollars.

“The U.S. Department of Justice, through the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services [COPS] and Office of Justice Programs, should provide technical assistance and incentive funding to jurisdictions with small police agencies that take steps towards shared services, regional training and consolidation,” one of the plan’s points stated.

The proposal also advocates for the federal collection of more data from local police.

“There is a lack of uniformity in data collection throughout law enforcement, and only patchwork methods of near real-time information sharing exist,” the plan stated, in the “national standards” section, Infowars found. “These problems are especially critical in light of the threats from terrorism and cybercrime.”

President Obama said he hoped to soon implement the plan among the nation’s 18,000 or so law enforcement jurisdictions.

“I’m going to be asking Eric Holder and the Justice Department and his successor to go through all these recommendations so that we can start implementing them,” Obama said, according to Infowars. “I know that one area that’s going to be of great interest is whether we can expand the COPS program that in the past has been very effective, continues to be effective, but is largely underfunded – to see if we can get more

[[Given that the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to control local police departments, the feds have no constitutional authority to tell local cops what to do imo.]]

He hasn’;t let a little htign like the constitution slow him down one iota-

No, the official uniform will be pink... with baby blue UN-recycled helmets. The neutering of America will be official, at that point.

Living in Europe, I’ve observed how the federal ownership of law enforcement works, and won’t complain about it.

Cops all attend a minimum of one year of a police academy. Idiots won’t pass the exams or the physical fitness requirements to even enter the academy process. You end up with a fairly smart rookie, and a general career path. If you screw up....you get fired and will never work again....anywhere within the country.

Speeding ticket gimmicks via the cops? They run some minor operations but it’s mostly now a blitz-camera operation that cities put up.

The usual rationale for federal funding is to compensate communities for the extra need for law enforcement created by the policies of the federal government, so it seems only fair to reduce services to those federally subsidized sections of the population if the feds take the money away. Maybe it’s time to remind them that the conditions attached to those funds have already been fulfilled. They don’t get to invent additional ones.

Austria is the only federation apart from Russia where the police has a single chain of command and is fully funded from the federal budget.
***********************
Texas, alone, is 8 times larger than Austria.

Fed control of law enforcement in Texas would be impossible; and much less so in all of the USA.

If you take the Fed’s money, you also take their rules.

Don’t take the money or the toys and tell them to eff off.

Obama, leaving office- is the last straw in destroying, Our United States of America. You place hope in politicians, undoing the devastation, that they helped integrate?

When the smoke clears, every wanna-be LEO who helped implement these unconstitutional decrees must be black-booked out of legitimate law-enforcement.

“Following Orders” doesn’t get you very far.

Hey, all you very stupid people, this is called the “GOLDEN RULE”. Them that got the gold, makes the rules. Does any one here think that if they take money from the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT that they are going to be able to make the rules? Just look around you. Your schools are being ruled by the DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. They tell you what you can teach the students. If you don’t do as they say, they take the money away from you. Look what they are telling all those people in the GOVERNMENT PLANTATION? You vote for them or the money will be gone. Because the states take money from the federal government, they had better do what the FEDs says, or else.

Living in Europe, I've observed how the federal ownership of law enforcement works, and won't complain about it.

Well your complaints about US locally controlled policing are mainly red herrings. There are a few bad cops and they get press especially here, but there are more bad TSA than bad local cops. There is good training in some localities and if you don't like the training in yours, you can advocate more or you can move.

Turning over all US cops to federal authority is an idea beyond bad. Imagine the BATF doing every domestic violence case. Imagine the IRS/FBI collecting local sales taxes from "tax evaders". Back in the bad old days there was federally run drug smuggling operation near me. There was just one local cop corrupted (that I know of), but that corruption came from above.

The reason the Europeans put up the Gestapo is the same reason they give in to most other forms of authority and will continue to do so until the next conflagration there.

Well...well...well! Obama finally exposes his hand by finally tipping his cards.....the beginning of his civilian army he spoke of during his initial campaign speeches.

First, disarm the civilians. Next vacuum up all local police into his unified “army” of civilians to control the freedom loving rebels running rampant in our country.

And????? What are the Republicans doing? NOTHING!

“When Obama is out of office, there will be huge opportunities for politicians to undo anything with Obama’s name on it.”

How many of Clinton’s actions and policies did the George W. Bush administration undo?

All of Obama’s policies are being enacted with the full acquiescence of the Republicans in Congress. They supported extension of the Patriot act, huge deficit spending, large grants of discretionary spending authority to the POTUS, the dismantling of the US military, the end of the manned space program, the continuation and funding of Obamacare once it was passed, funding of amnesty under executive decree, they have done nothing to stop the attacks on the fossil fuels industry and they fund unprofitable green energy, etc., etc. What has come from the Congressional investigations of scandals? Nothing.

Does anyone truly believe a President Jeb Bush will undo anything Obama has done? Even a Scott Walker or Ted Cruz will have to work with a Republican leadership in Congress that runs from any confrontation with congressional Democrats and caves on every issue.

It has become evident we live under a one party socialist dictatorship where the rivalry between the parties is merely a facade to cover up the real agenda.

I’m good with arming them with .38 specials like in the good old days.

A lot of folks understand that most cops aren’t our allies when it comes to freedom.

How will this work with the sheriffs?
Remember the sheriff of a county is the overriding law enforcement official and, legally, anyone coming in for law enforcement purposes must get is permission to be there.
