Both Sides See Vindication in Justice Department Reports on Ferguson

They were four words that became the national rallying cry of a new civil rights movement: “Hands up, don’t shoot.”

Protesters chanted it, arms raised, in cities across the country in solidarity for Michael Brown, the black teenager who some witnesses said was surrendering when he was shot and killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo.

The slogan was embraced by members of Congress, recording artists and football players with the St. Louis Rams.

It inspired posters and songs, T-shirts and new advocacy groups, a powerful distillation of simmering anger over police violence and racial injustice in Ferguson and beyond.

But in its final report this week clearing the police officer, Darren Wilson, of civil rights violations in Mr. Brown’s death, the Justice Department said it may not have happened that way. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. cast doubt on the “hands up” account even as he described Ferguson as having a racially biased police department and justice system.

“It remains not only valid — but essential — to question how such a strong alternative version of events was able to take hold so swiftly, and be accepted so readily,” Mr. Holder said Wednesday.

For many, the answer to that question was contained in a second Justice Department report released on Wednesday that described in blistering detail how Ferguson had used its police department and court system as moneymaking ventures that disproportionately targeted African-Americans and routinely violated their constitutional rights.

As the nation digested the two federal investigations into Ferguson, police groups that are often sharp critics of Mr. Holder found vindication in the report on Mr. Brown’s death, seeing in it a final rebuttal to a narrative that demonized Mr. Wilson. They called the shooting a tragedy, but said it had never been a crime bias.

Actually it's pretty simple you moron, it's called racism, the type of racism committed by you, the obamas, al sharpton, jesse jackson and a myriad of other Black race baiters demanding something for nothing in America!

Holdey: Apparently the allegations were false. But how was it that so many outside professional agitators, provocateurs, street thugs and gangsters were apparently so certain? Whitey must have been up to something.

It is the New York Times. Of course they had to declare this monstrous travesty at least a “tie” for the administration.

There was a lot of upset over the Treyvon Martin killing. A few days after that my guy was walking down an urban sidewalk at night and two black men driving by yelled “Kill Whitey.” A day or two later I was walking down the sidewalk, 6 black men walked past me and one said something extremely ugly about his mouth and my ass. The anger in black areas was very strong. However, it turned out that the shooter was just a police wannabe and social misfit.

I think that far left activists used this anger to prepare for a better case to come along. That happened when the Ferguson case occurred. It did not matter that he was a 300 lb thug who had just robbed a convenience store and bullied a much smaller man. There was apparently quite a lot of racist stuff happening in Ferguson, and almost no black people on the police force for a large black population. It fit the police brutality meme, and the far left organizers ware off and running. Money was available for printing and travel and they made the most of it in a number of cities. The Police kept obliging with other much more questionable shootings of much more innocent victims.

When I see the far left rally around such incidents, it leads me to believe that the black underclass will never assimilate and they just need to find better accommodations for them. When race becomes the primary determination in hiring cops (so black cops police black areas), nothing ever gets better. Here in the northeast we’ve had plenty of minority cops for decades; nothing improved.

After they couldn’t find a crime to pin on Wilson, it was a foregone conclusion they would “discover” racism in the PD. Did anybody expect any other outcome?

“However, it turned out that the shooter was just a police wannabe and social misfit.”

I think you bought into the smear on Zimmerman. He was very well thought of in his community, hardly a social misfit, before the storm of accusations and smears aimed at him by the entire elite establishment.

As for being a “police wannabe” there is no indication that he did anything inappropriate, such as imitating a police officer or even showing adulation for the police. He stood firmly *against* the police when he thought they were in the wrong; and was apparently respected by the police.

I am not clear how you mean the term “police wannabe” as derogatory, except perhaps as someone who wants something but is not willing to do the work to get it. It did not seem to fit George Zimmerman. From all reports, he had higher aspirations. He wanted to be a Judge, like his father, so perhaps he was a “Judge wannabe”.

If you are willing to look at a very well done analysis of the case by an expert witness who was privy to much of the “insider” events, read Massad Ayoob.

Here is the introduction of his analysis:

The media told us a self-appointed neighborhood watch captain and wannabe cop with gun-derived courage was on patrol when he profiled a young child because he was black and wearing a hoodie, and that he stalked and gunned down the helpless youth out of sheer malicious bloodlust. The media trumpeted that theme so loudly that most of America believed it. When the killer was acquitted, there was national and even international outrage. It was a bandwagon made for anti-gunners to leap on, from the Brady Organization to the White House, and they jumped on it with more feet than a nest of spiders.

The trouble was, it wasn’t like that at all. George Zimmerman had been named head of the watch group by his own neighbors. While he had considered a career in criminal justice and taken some classwork in that area, he had also been offered a quasi-police patrol car and uniform by the police department that coordinated with the Neighborhood Watch, and had turned it down. Zimmerman wasn’t “on patrol” in his private vehicle on that proverbial dark and rainy night; the evidence showed he was simply driving to a Target store to buy some lunch makings for work that week.

Exactly, and of course even that is BS since Holder’s report uses the statistics dishonestly.

The rape that gave us the roe v wade decision was a lie. Doesn’t matter, still millions aborted because of it.

Hand up don’t shoot - also a lie. I wonder what the cost of this lie will be...

“It remains not only valid — but essential — to question how such a strong alternative version of events was able to take hold so swiftly, and be accepted so readily,” Mr. Holder said Wednesday.

Here's how it happened JACK HEALY, SHERYL GAY STOLBERG and VIVIAN YEE ... A criminal friend of Michael Brown (yes, he has a REAL criminal record) got up in front of an early crowd - with a bunch of other 'civil rights' people and flat out lied.

Brown's friend lied because he knew the 'reporters' in front of him would NOT question him because his skin was black... AND because the liberal press WANTED his story to be true.

You doubt me?

Check out lies by Oberlin students - the KKK lie, the lesbian who carved her own hate messages into her skin and blamed it on white conservative men, the college feminist who wrote hate letters to herself and said they were from a conservative man, Matthew Sheppard was killed by a former gay lover - the media blamed conservatives... The list goes on forever.

If liberal elite fools in the media find a story that fits their every dream of hatred for conservatives they run with it.

That's how it happened.

I was following one election, among several others, where the candidate was an avowed Marxist/Leninist Socialist, and at one national candidate information site listed as a Communist organizer. This candidate had a number of volunteers, including some from their former party, the Party for Socialism and Liberation. One thing that stood out was the call in campaign literature to “seize” the local utility for the people as well as a statement of being a Socialist. The voting jurisdiction had about a 50% black population and the vote for this person was around 3.5%. Black people in the US may be “liberal or progressive” but they don’t seem to flock to Soviet oriented Socialism even with an articulate and hard working candidate. No opinion as to how they might respond to a Scandinavian type Socialist message.

Regarding the media report on the Martin death. My sense of the incident was a tall, skinny black teen who had been minding his own business was confronted by an eager community volunteer in an aggressive/hostile? way and got angry. He had moved/been moved to live with a relative and try to get his life straightened out, and even when doing nothing wrong was still getting into trouble. Two upset angry people each thinking they were in the right exploded and death occurred. Unfortunately, it appears that stand-your-ground laws have encouraged this kind of tragedy as those states with those laws have seen an increase of those kinds of deaths. All you need is two angry people, neither of which feels he has any legal need to back down, and tragedy can ensue and has.

I can see where you would get that impression, but it is not the way I understood the events to have happened.

There appears to be a rise in justified homicides in Stand-Your-Ground jurisdiction; there also appears to be a drop in overall homicides. It is difficult to be certain of cause and effect.

How do you do nothing wrong and still get in trouble? He was not innocently walking around in the wee hours, he appeared to be casing houses, in fact, Zimmerman stated on the 911 tape he was stopping and peering into houses. And he was never confronted by Zimmerman, but pursued, as also layed out in the 911 tape, and then George lost sight of him, gave up the pursuit, and was headed back to his car. Then innocent St. Treyvon, who could have easily went to his father’s place, doubled back, confronted then attacked Zimmerman. I encourage you to read the court transcripts. Your perceived narrative seems gleaned straight from the MSM.

Stand your ground results are not a tragedy, they are a victory of an individual’s right to not be harmed or killed by an attacker. All you need is one aggressive angry person and one that fears for their safety and/or life, and victory can ensue and has.

The point I was making was that based on the general media I was exposed to, I did not perceive him as a “young child”, but rather a tall skinny teenager who might have had some anger issues. I will try to look at the transcript if it is on line, which it probably is.

Fair enough. I guess the point I was trying to make was that the media narrative at the least had both off them being angry and aggressive, and usually with George being the aggressor, when in fact, George observed a suspicious acting person (his words on the 911 tape) and was acting in his capacity as the neighborhood watch captain reporting it, following him to give a better description, disengaging when he lost sight of him and returning to his vehicle to wait for the police, and subsequently attacked by Treyvon. It was not two angry guys with a beef squaring off. I wish there were more people like you that are willing to go beyond the MSM narrative and discuss and review the transcripts.
