Ben Carson Is Fighting a Culture War: His remarks on homosexuality more likely to help than hurt
The Atlantic ^ | 03/07/2015 | Peter Beinert

Posted on 03/07/2015 6:17:54 AM PST by SeekAndFind

You might think Ben Carson’s recent comments suggesting that prison turns people gay have hurt his presidential campaign. I don’t buy it. In fact, I suspect they’ll improve his chances.

First, Carson’s supporters agree with what he said. According to a March 2014 Washington Post poll, 48 percent of conservative Republicans think being gay is something you choose while only 39 percent disagree. If you polled the activists on the Christian-right most likely to back Carson’s campaign, that figure would probably be even more lopsided.

Second, it won’t exactly shock Carson’s backers to hear that he’s anti-gay. Last March, Carson made headlines for linking “gays” to members of NAMBLA, the man/boy love society, and to “people who believe in bestiality.” Liberals pounced. But there’s no evidence Carson’s comments hurt his nascent presidential campaign. In fact, polls in key primary states regularly show Carson running ahead of candidates like Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and Rick Perry, who the press takes more seriously.

Carson’s anti-gay reputation may hurt him among Republican elites, which could help explain why, after his prison comment, he has now backtracked. But among the hard-right activists he’s courting, Carson’s ability to offend is key to his appeal.

Being politically incorrect is a big part of Carson’s brand. In his 2009 book, The Big Picture, Carson argues that the “obsession with politically correct speech” has “reduced the quality of meaningful dialogue” and “discourages honesty.” And he claims that the two issues on which “political correctness” takes the greatest toll are abortion and gay rights.

It almost sounds like The Atlantic is wanting Carson to stay in the race.

What kind of right-wing hate rag is The Atlantic? A right-wing hate rag?

Republicans/Conservatives have had 30 years to figure out how to handle questions about homosexuality. But every time they are asked, they come out with some stupid comment. All they need to do is pick up a book by Freud who was very knowledgeable on the subject. Or even go to a conservative gay site like Gay Patriot and read how they suggest straight candidates handle these gotcha questions. But, I guess, that’s just toooooo hard.

" it won’t exactly shock Carson’s backers to hear that he’s anti-gay."

It's simply sad when, to the media, telling the truth is anti-anything. Truth is truth, even in the biased world of the left.

What Carson should've said was, "Ask Bill de Blasio's wife. She USED to be a lesbian, but she's STILL black. You figure it out."

Either that or he should've said, "I don't answer gotcha questions. Now let me tell you about my Health Savings Accounts plan...."

Yep, its clear some in the MSM are pushing Carson.
We fell for that line starting with Alan Keyes, then The Pizza Guy.

He has already apologized to the gay fascists.

By my reckoning, Carson has jumped the shark.

I can’t vote for an appeaser.

If The Atlantic wants Dr Carson to stay in the race, it's because he's an "attractive distractor" to siphon social conservative votes away from Ted Cruz, Scott Walker, or any other constitutional conservative potentially in the race.

Dr. Carson might be a fine doctor, but he has no track record of voting or being elected or governing. Sad thing is, he might be ending his chances to be Surgeon General.

Yes he did and that’s why I don’t think he’s ready for the presidency. He lacks the experience in dealing with the brutal leftists.

I disagree. A person can’t decide what form their temptations will take. In other words, Christians don’t necessarily believe the temptation itself is a matter of choice. The choice part is whether or not to act on temptation. For example, I’m a Christian who is tempted to have sex with women who are not my wife. I can’t stop being attracted to women. What I can do is make a conscious decision to resist that temptation, and fortunately, resistance becomes easier as one builds Christian self discipline.

Another example: I know Christians who are recovering alcoholics. Some of them have went decades without a drink, but the temptation is always there. It gets easier for them, but they always have to watch themselves from falling back into sin. Alcoholism is like a wound that never fully cures. The scar fades with time, but it will never be fully gone until the resurrection.

What will hurt Carson is the pullback. His support came from conservatives already a little wary of his anti-gun comments. His cowardice in this matter will turn away what little support he had.

His comments were idiotic. There's a reason why The Atlantic wants him in the race. So the GOP can fight among themselves with this crap and be portrayed as right-wing extremists.

If Carson wanted to make a statement on homosexuals, he should have done so pertaining to the homosexual "marriage" debate.

Carson has no business running for President. But I'm sure the affirmative-action wing of FR will support him just like they supported Herman Cain.

Homosexuality is a deadly perversion. They use molestation/pderasty as a means of reproduction. Dr. Carson should not have back tracked. Also, homosexuals appear to have a penchant for treason: Bradley Manning, Kim Philby, David Brock (he once wrote for the Conservative “American Spectator”;) etc. Conservatives should not be necessarily trying to appeal to such an immoral population of 2% of America.

Truth is more hated than Lies (Machiavelli).

What you are seeing, is the suppression of Truth (again) for the “perceptions of the masses” which is the ONLY ocncern of the Marxists Ba’al (nature) worshippers.

It is particularly dangerous to have a physician (who has a platform) to claim that sodomizing others is a “learned behavior” and a “choice’. That delusion that it is genetic is imperative to make “Evil” into Good and normal “for the children” like the days of Ba’al worship.

Why? Because homosexuality is caused by child-abuse always (neglect or abuse in infancy by fathers and/or mothers, peer rejection, rape, etc—where the normal sexual identity process is warped-—children learn to “desire” irrational objects because of experience (many proofs—such as the harem boys of Afghanistan—particularly of neglect of an emotional need, which is habituated). But with outright rape-—embedded emotions will determine later desires and the sexual drive is one of the strongest to overcome.

The public schools destroy Virtue in children intentionally with Sex Ed (Hollywood does too). Innocence is necessary for normal sexual identity formation-—the mystery, and wonder is what gives dignity and respect for the sex act.

When you “teach” Sex Ed in schools esp. you destroy what makes the sex act moral: privacy and intimacy-—and children are immature and can in no way, shape or form, develop a true understanding of the meaning of sex when taught by strangers (esp. perverted, immoral people which will warp their desires and understanding of Truth/God/Life/Love.

He apparently doesn’t understand “situational” sexuality in which normal men engage in homosexual behavior as a forced outlet. Think His Majesty’s navy in the 17th and 18th century! Think private boy schools. Prison is the same way - although nobody in prison is probably normal. But many of these men go back to their wives and girlfriends.

He should have focused on gay marriage.
