Wisconsin police fatally shot an apparently unarmed African-American teenager on Friday, prompting dozens of people to protest at the site of the killing, according to police and videos published on social media.

Madison Police Chief Mike Koval told reporters that an officer responded to a disturbance at around 6:30 p.m. local time and later forced his way into an apartment that the 19-year-old, who was also suspected of a recent battery, had gone into.

Koval said that a struggle between the suspect and the officer ensued and the teen was fatally shot, according to a recording of the news conference published by broadcaster WKOW.

“The initial finding at the scene did not reflect a gun or anything of that nature that would have been used by the subject,” Koval said. …

Unarmed does not mean harmless.

1. Someone breaks a law and is a potential threat to others, they run the risk of being shot dead.

2. I thought tasers and training were supposed to better equip law enforcement to subdue someone without shooting them.

A bit difficult , since it happened in Madison, one of the country’s most communist cities.

I know the city just approved the body cams for Madison police - dunno if they’ve been implemented yet...

what kind of threat was the kid that the cop had to force his way into his apartment? Did the cop feel “disrespected” when he yelled “halt” and determined to force the kid to submit or pursue and kill him?

Don’t they have search warrants to go into people’s homes unless there is violence occurring inside that home?

something about this story stinks- not getting all the facts here

From your link

Koval told reporters that the shooting occurred after an officer responded to reports of a man jumping into traffic, according to WKOW.

"Before we arrived, the call was updated by another complainant who indicated that this same subject was responsible for a battery," Koval said.

The officer in question entered an apartment where Robinson was thought to be hiding. "This same subject then assaulted my officer and in the context of mutual combat, the officer did draw his revolver and subsequently shot the subject," Koval said.

Unfortunately facts don't matter in these cases these days. Police are automatically guilty in the eyes of many in these neighborhoods.

Just a few months ago Police in Ann Arbor shot and killed a woman on drugs, off her meds and charging them with a knife. They hit her with a taser and she still kept coming so a single shot to the chest killed her. She had already stabbed her boyfiend which was why police were there in the first place.

Naturally there were the usual screams of police brutality and racism. To make matters worse the boyfriend who had been stabbed was right there with the protesters.

State of Wisconsin vs. Tony T Robinson
Dane County Case Number 2014CF000781

The defendant Tony T Robinson was found guilty of the following charge(s) in this case.

Armed Robbery, a class C felony, Wisconsin Statutes 943.32(2).

Dunno for sure if this is him - but is the same age and in Madison...

When did officers start carrying revolvers again?

Given the state of reporting today we should consider ourselves lucky the story doesn’t say the officer drew his Vulcan Cannon.

This article offers an interesting glimpse into the Reuters Stylebook. When a black teen is involved in committing an offense, he is simply a “teen” in the headline. When a black teen is shot or otherwise harmed, it is then permissible to call him a “black teen.” Got it.
