Drudge Report pandering to the left?
Self | 3/7/15 | Self

Posted on 03/07/2015 6:24:41 PM PST by Boomer

Am I the only one seeing the Drudge Report starting to pander to the left lately?

Is he being threatened to change the way he does things with his website?

No need to answer straight away but I would suggest a more critical eye.

All this time Mr. Drudge has been a steadfast right of center website. He has always driven the left crazy with his way of framing any issue with an alternate headline meant to evoke a certain, um, right feel; for the lack of a better way of saying it.

What say you after giving it some thought?

There is only ONE THING that Drudge panders to ... and that’s clicks to his webpage ... :-) ... everything else is a “tool” to that end.

My understanding is Drudge is heterosexual and conservative.

Mike Isikoff from Newsweak originally got the Monica story, but his bosses spiked the story, for reasons you can guess at. One of Isikoff’s angry colleagues passed it to Drudge, who by then had already had a good track record and had become known as fairly fearless as a one-man operation operating out of a tiny apartment.

A high proportion of long-time Freeps were early Drudge fans, back when FR generally featured only maybe 30 threads per day and Matt’s followeship was maybe 5% of what it is today.

Matt was small enough that he could still go ignored (though followed) by the MSM, and it was maybe 10 months before MSM pukes finally relented and took up Drudge’s lead.

During that YEAR FR was full to the brim with consummate Monica Mess experts, who digested the tiniest new developments and compared notes, vaguely akin to the much later Benghazi matter.

Meanwhile the kneepadded Media eagerly slurped and guzzled up BJ/HRC’s latest essence.

It was like two parallel universes, side-by-side but unaware of one another.

Great synopsis. My life hasn’t been the same since i clicked on Matt’s “WHITEWATER ARCHIVES” link in Feb 1998. Wish i had a screen shot of his page with that link on it back then.

Drudge featured a LINK to FR back when we were small:

More than 10 years ago periodically there would be these, “How did you discover FR..?”-threads, and very many would chime in here at FR that they came here via that one, tiny link that Drudge features towards the bottom of his page.

I really think that Drudge and maybe two other entities really drive ALL of the US media, and therefore also a good fraction of the stories about the USA in the rest of the world.

Matt is probably one of the very most influential people in the whole world, and he never went to college.

Another Army of One —he deserves ALL of his success.

Matt has always presented both sides though as of late he’s been more on our side. I do think he tries o be objective, he has a reputation as such.

Drudge site is certainly not supportive of conservatives, his site “aggregates” cherry picked stories more often than not to support establishment losers like Romney.

Joe Curl left and started right read at The Washington Times. Not sure who runs it now. But Joe Curl was the editor for years.

Years ago I read an article that said that 90% of all journalists and politicians go to the Drudge Report first thing in the morning to find out what is going on in the world. It has been my homepage for over a decade. Between Drudge, Rush Limbaugh and FR, I stay very informed about current events, politics and many other subjects.

Whether Matt Drudge does it himself or someone else selects the stories to link to, it is his prerogative since he owns the site. Who are we to question what he does?

All 3 of your links are bogus; Drudge either denies the gay allegation or just more hearsay is presented.

Nice try.

>>He gets accused of being right because the media in general is so far left of him he stands out.<<

My thoughts exactly.

By the way, I noticed a discussion in this thread about Drudge once linking to FR. As I recall that link was dropped when a few discussions got going about him in here and people started piling on by criticizing the hell out of him. Whether it was one specific criticism, or many, I don’t recall, but suddenly that link was no more.

Anyone else remember that episode a little more clearly? Or maybe it didn’t happen that way at all?

Anyway, He’s been my home page for a long, long time...over 20 years, and I don’t think he’s changed much over the years. He does seem to promote certain candidates at times, however, and pick on others, but if one of his favorites steps in it, you’ll usually find a link on his site regardless.

His real talent is finding some of the stranger stories out there and then linking to them with irresistible headlines.

I remember when Drudge outed himself just before David Brock was going to...this was quite a few years ago.

He doesn’t create the story or articles.

But he does create one line synopses of these articles, and often they are based on incidental remarks within the linked article. This is fine by me, since it is kind of eye-opening as to the entire "news" process, where it's all a matter of emphasis, which can range arbitrarily over several orders of magnitude.
