Ferguson home values are plummeting, and residents are feeling the pain
Fusion ^ | March 16, 2015 | Daniel Rivero

Peering outside the office window of his tire shop, John Zisser grumbles about the pile of burnt rubble that lies on the opposite corner of a busy intersection.

“If you come here to my shop and you see that,” he says, as gestures out the window, “is that going to give you a warm, fuzzy feeling like you want to come back here to do business?”

“Short answer: no, no it’s not,” he says.

I hope nobody expects the city to lower their property tax assessments accordingly.

Well I’m not worried. I’m sure Barrack’s got something in his stash, and the state can kick in a little as well.

Then we can see the miracle of urban renewal: a pedestrian mall, a museum, small storefronts for galleries, vegan restaurants, purveyors of 3rd world knick/knacks who pay a fair price and expect you to do the same, and an organic farmer’s market/coop.

Oh. I forgot: there will also be a half-way house for sex-offenders, a methadone clinic, welfare office and a few low income housing complexes. You gotta put that shit somewhere doncha know, and since the bulldozers are already there...

Ferguson is yet another cautionary tale.. if you’re white and living in a majority black town, by any means necessary, GTFO. If you have a house and can’t sell it, rent it out ‘til you can.

The situation will only deteriorate.. it will NOT somehow, someday improve. If you care about your safety and that of your family, you’ll take the initiative and relocate to friendlier climes.

What’s wrong with the Democrats of Ferguson? Are there any Republicans there?

All your pithy advice will fall on deaf ears in Ferguson, MO, and many, many other places as well. The American people lack the ability for self-government, as many of the Founding Fathers feared.

Sad but very true commentary.

And cockroaches. Brown and low to the ground, they sneakily invade, rapidly mutiply, and infest your $hip making it where you don’t want it anymore.

I am glad someone focused on this. I had been waiting for the first anniversary of the riot to start looking at property values myself to see how much they fell. What so many people don't understand is how much real estate values are affected by factors out of control of the homeowner.

This is where the real rubber meets the road, and where real black people, who had nothing to do with the shooting, the investigation, the protests, or the riots, will get creamed.

And there is nothing stopping people from cleaning up the piles of burned rubble.

Absolutely - compared to what we had to clean up after Katrina, Ferguson is a short side street with a few papers and cans laying around.
