KALISZ, Poland For evidence of how much President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia has jangled nerves and provoked anxiety across Eastern Europe, look no farther than the drill held the other day by the Shooters Association.
The paramilitary group, like more than 100 others in Poland, has experienced a sharp spike in membership since Mr. Putins forces began meddling in neighboring Ukraine last year.
Thirty students took an oath to defend Poland at all costs, joining nearly 200 other regional members of the association young men and women, boys and girls marching in formation around the perimeter of the dusty high school courtyard here. They crossed Polish Army Boulevard and marched into the center of town, sprawling in four long lines along the edge of St. Josephs Square.
Gen. Boguslaw Pacek, an adviser to the Polish defense minister and the governments chief liaison with these paramilitary groups, marched with them. He has been making the rounds in recent months of such gatherings: student chapters like this one, as well as groups of veterans, even battle re-enactors.
One of those who took the oath in Kalisz was Bartosz Walesiak, 16, who said he had been interested in the military since playing with toy soldiers as a little boy, but had been motivated to join the Shooters Association after Russia moved into Crimea.
I think that Putin will want more, he said.
Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia are already getting ready for such a scenario, so Poland must do the same.

Isn’t Poland in NATO yet?!
Well at least this time they want have the Nazi army on their western front when Stalin’s men roll in.
Ohh for crying out loud. Putin has been spending a year trying to capture a sliver of land. At this rate it would take 2000 years to take Poland.
Yes, Poland is a NATO member, since 1999.
Taking over chunks of countries is what Russia does. See Georgia and South Ossetia, Romania and the "breakaway Republic" of Moldova (which still has statues of Stalin in prominent places), and now Ukraine in Crimea and currently attempting to create their "People's Republics" (with Soviet flags and criminal codes!) in East Ukraine.
The Russkies have already started up propaganda against countries like Estonia and Latvia, which have Russian minorities who might "suddenly decide" to setup their own Soviet republics because they're fighting against Estonian/Latvian "Naziism."
WELL THEN ... if Russia moves on Poland, it will be World War III ...
It ends up stinking for a whole lot of the world when America elects the like of Barack Hussein Obama.
Russia wants to ask NATO, and in particular the U.S., the following question: "Will you start WWIII to defend Estonia? Latvia?" Russian propaganda, which has roots in both the far left as well as the faux right-wing (Ron Paul's think thank for "peace" is filled with Russian apologists and has ties with Russian fascists/communists). They will attempt to pressure the West into believing that these countries aren't worth global nuclear war. If Europe or the U.S. folds, then NATO will fall apart.
Also, it's highly likely that Russia will use the same tactics to invade these countries. That is, using "rebel" groups (actually Russian soldiers posing as spontaneous rebels), terrorist attacks and cyber/economic warfare. All of this without admitting they are engaged in hostilities with these countries, and they will also likely depict them as "natural" rebellions against "Western aggression towards the Russian World."
It’ll be just like WWI when no one really expected it and no one really wanted it.
More like WWII. Russia wants it, nobody else does.
Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia are already getting ready for such a scenario, so Poland must do the same.
An obvious conclusion. Poland once again is a trip wire. Time will tell what the rest of the world will think of the well justified fears of those NATO members.
Blitzkrieg II?
Obama might want it.
Poland would kick his ass just like it was 1920 again.
"Bring it on, bitches!"
Fortunately Poland is primarily populated by ethnic Poles. Diversity is not their strength, but unity is.
If there are Nazis in Poland, the Russians will find them. /s
